See DOC; you think christianity is special. it is not. it is a religion like any other. *YOU* think it is special because you are a christian. But then against a Buddhist would think Buddhism is special too, and probably think not too much of your religion.

And don't think this ios an isolated example, I could replace x by Hinduism , x by Shintoism, x by islamism, or even if the "president" stuff is preplaced by , say, king or emperor, x=egyptian, x=roman religion, x=ancient greeek religion...

There is NOTHING special in those point even comparing to religion of the past.

So really, stuff your "statement is falsehood".

I'd like to speak up for a small but fabulously truthful religion: Frisbeetarians. They believe that when you die your soul goes up on the roof and you can't get it down. For proof, I think you could find hundreds if not thousands of Frisbees on roofs, followed by other objects obviously drawn there by the powerful pull of the truthful truthiness of the Holy Frisbee.
 
the intent of this thread is clear:
DOC's goal is to show that there can't possibly be the same amount of evidence for other religions as there is for Christianity.


Expect to see copious amounts of Special Pleading and referencing of post counts.
 
To those responding to this thread, DOC thinks this will be yet another piece of evidence that Christianity is true. You see, in that other thread, he claimed that the fact that he "successfully" defended his faith for umpteen pages while you never see Jews or Buddhists do so proves Christianity must be more likely to be true (ignoring the fact that several of us pointed out that this only proves most religions aren't evangelical).

So he now thinks that if people of other religions do not post in his little trap, he will have demonstrated the awesomeness of Jesus.

Sad, really.
 
Yes, I was remembering that post and figured this was an extension of it. Doesn't mean we can't have 14,000 posts giving exactly the same kind of evidence that was in the other thread.

Filippo actually makes a really good point.

Back on 4/25/09, the Apologia podcast ("a friendly roundtable discussion between theists and nontheists that seeks common understanding.") had on a follower of the Baha'i faith to explain his religion. He was very spoken and sounded like someone who had thought a lot about his religion.

Interestingly, as I recall, he used arguments 1, 2 and 3 and possibly a form of argument 5. What was so striking was that even the Christian apologist regulars on the podcast noted that he used arguments very similar to theirs.

These are the exact reasons DOC gave in the other thread. Filippo simply generalized it and applied it here.

So, let's apply the series of arguments to other religions and see how it stacks up:

Judaism
1. The inquisition demonstrated that many people refused to abandon their Jewish faith despite the cruelty.
2. There are simply too many Jews to name that were famous. Indeed, the impressive positive impact Jews have had on western culture far exceeds what would be expected by probabilities alone. (Einstein, Bohr, Freud, Oppenheimer, Feynman, Mahler, Kafka, klimt, Geddy Lee, Mendelssohn, Jesus)
3. Jews do not too often extol the virtues of Judaism. It is not in the faith to be that crass. Instead, we can present quotes of the modest Jews and give quotes of those jew-haters and leave people to decide which is the proper way and which isn't.
