Skydiving at TAM8 - The Official Thread

(Haha, I have signed up for skydiving. Haha. Mustn't think about it. I hear cluck-cluck noises approaching from the back of my head. La-la-la - I can't hear you...)

Come on, guys! You are probably more likely to get killed on the car ride over to the skydiving place, than you are from the actual skydiving.

That's true, and I know this, since I write my PhD thesis on risk perception.

Unfortunately, the specific topic is the impact of affect on risk perception, and affect is what makes my rational mind freak out despite the statistics. :o

Well, after thinking about this rationally, I decided that I should actually be less afraid of skydiving than of a normal flight. After all, the only time during standard air travel I sometimes get nervous, is during the landing. (Admittedly, it takes something like London fog or severe winds to make me nervous.) But skydiving will completely remove the landing part. Well, that of the machine.... hm, I may have to rethink that...

Do you have to pay extra for the strapping? I know not everyone is into that.

I probably should have mentioned, sooner, that this will all be a tandem skydive.

You will not be jumping alone. A trained professional skydiving person will be strapped to you.

Of course, you could jump out of the plane without being strapped to anything. But, then you'll miss the rest of TAM...

Ah, that kind of strapping! I thought you meant... Never mind. That makes more sense.

I think it is safe to say that I will go through my entire life without ever once being strapped to another man.

But if that's how you swing... :)

In the context of skydiving, I am willing to do it. I can assure you that, otherwise, I would not.

But, there is also a chance that the professional strapped to me will be a woman. Not all of them are men.

Ah, I was just about to ask if I could bring my own professional. But I guess it has to be a skydiver...

Wife: Why don't you get a tattoo to commemorate your skydive?

Me: I don't need a tattoo. I will have PTSD imprinted onto my neural circuits.

Wife: Flashback fun! Three skydives for the price of one!

River Tam costume, hell yeah! That reminds me, I don't have any costume ready... Should really get my Steampunk streak going...

The closest I could get to a Firefly look-alike would probably be Wash.
