Merged Two Mosques to be built near Ground Zero

The right of Muslims in America to build a mosque in this location is not questionable, having a discussion about it is rapidly approaching the critical mass of stupidity. It may be offensive to those who are sensitive to the 9/11 tragedy (which would be most of us in America), but the Constitution does not protect some non-existant right to feel unoffended.

If you are truly outraged by this and want to do something, then set up a vendor cart outside the mosque's building to sell Muhammad cartoon gear. Comic books, posters, t-shirts, bumper stickers, coffee mugs, calendars, and statuettes. Then name your business "Assassinate me, please!"

That would be far more productive than ******** all over the liberties that constitute our great nation.

Minor point: Jews don't think that.

Maybe not all because there are subdivisions within the Jewish faith as well but I know some believe he was a prophet not a savior.

Let me correct that. Jews saw Jesus as an ordinary man who claimed to be a prophet, Islam saw him as a prophet but not the savior.

Right, but Cleon's point is that your statement that "Jews and Muslims agree that Christ is a prophet not a savior" is inaccurate. Most Jews don't agree that Jesus is a prophet. To the extent that Jews even think Jesus existed at all he is, at most, a Rabbi of uncertain parentage.

Yes, those are called "Messianic" Jews (aka "Jews for Jesus"). They're a tiny, tiny, tiny minority.

poor jews missed all the messiases and are still waiting :D

See correction, my short version for brevity was too inaccurate.

Many of whom are in fact Christians dedicated to converting Jews to Christianity. They are Jews in the same way that I, an American citizen, might claim to be "Canadian" without actually changing my citizenship, moving to Canada, or actually knowing anything about Canada, its history or its culture.

The Jewish identity is more complicated than that. You can be Jewish by upbringing and culture without following the religious teachings of modern Judaism. An atheist Jew is still Jewish, and so is a Jew that accepts Christ.
The word "Jew" is more than a religious affiliation, it's a heritage and a culture.

mmmh the Saudis funding it? didnt hear of that. source?
Its in the history of the group responsible for pushing this plan to build the mosque there, namely the Cordoba Initiative led by Abdul Rauf. The $100 million slated for this building of this mosque has yet to be fully disclosed apart from those already listed like Qatar. The brunt of the funding still has to be disclosed for this project.

All one has to do is look at previous funders of the Cordoba Initiative and their past associations as the ASMA, Islamic Dialogue, WMC, C-100 Initiative, etc. and their core group members, which includes prominent Saudi academics, Royal Saudi holdings firms, and Saudi royalty political figures, ie Prince Turki Al Faisal.

So the issue here is not whether mosques are being built, but who funds and runs these mosques. The Saudis are definitely not the poster boys of moderation....

Indeed. The Talmud even describes this. A Jew who converts to Islam or Christianity might be considered an Apostate Jew...but he is still a Jew till the day he dies.

But is the child of an Apostate Jew....a Jew? I'm not sure.

I should hope so, since the Jewish scriptures claim that there were periods where virtually all of Israel was apostate for more than a generation. If that's enough to break the line, I'd have doubts that we'd have any genuine Jews left.

About your avatar, Mr. Henderson -- you know his original name was Mr. Penis von Lesbian, but you can't succeed in America with a name like that, so...

Er.... nothing in the original link said a word about Muslims not having the right to build a mosque. Or said anything about those Muslims having anything at all to do with Al Quaeda or any other terrorist. All it said that they are planning to do it, which is true, and that it is controvertial, which -- justly or not -- it is. Why Parky is outraged over a piece that simply covered an event I have no idea.

hu planned? in the news 2 days ago i think, i read that it was decided to be build after long and controversial discussion.

was that wrong? is it not definitife yet?

Fact: this new Muslim cultural center will be beyond the view of ANYONE at GZ.

Not only is it two blocks away, but it is half-way down the street as well.

Unless some bigoted Islamophobe announces its existance to folks at GZ, no one will EVER know it exists.

But again, no one will be able to see it.

So who the **** cares!!!!!!!!!

I am not sure what the exact status is right now, but my point was the original Fox News report was merely reporting on the status of the project, saying nothing at all about this project being evil or banned or that it should not be built or anything similar, so I fail to see what Parky is getting all excited about, or how he could read what he interpreted it to mean into the OP.
