By that logic, if she'd been shot that could also be a success, since there'd be a problem with the blood as it keeps escaping from the wound.

I believe he did - he mentioned that his logic overcame his instinct and he failed to mention it, but he definitely did see it and it is interesting nonetheless and there should be further testing.

I've seen slow news days. On the slowest of the slow news days, this would not be news.

Now I admit, I am somewhat old-fashioned in this respect, treating "news" with a certain respect that evokes notions of civic importance and public education. I believe it was Jay Leno who pointedly illustrated that this sort of respect was lost when the major TV networks (and many major newspapers) in 1993 began reporting a story about a woman who cut off her husband's wang. Leno remarked rhetorically something like, "Can you IMAGINE Walter Cronkite reporting THAT story??"

There still exists, I think, a general concept of what is "newsworthy," and I would bet that reputable schools of journalism still teach about it. There are plenty of publicity seekers and folks who want free advertising and con men and ignoramuses and blowhards and general nutcases out there, and those who report what they want to pass off as "news" NEED to filter out the news from the garbage.

The story with Van Praagh belongs in the "garbage" category.

Actually, from what I heard, somewhere around July of last year (2009) give or take a few months, doctors predicted that Barbara was going to need surgery "before June" of this year (what I heard was that it was about a year ago that she was told that). Then she went in for a checkup and they told her it needs to be now.

The host on Dr Radio (Kimberly Deore - not one of my favorites, but that is a different issue) went with the, "Wow, what happened to indicate that it had to be NOW?" route, and had a cardiologist talk about that. My view was more of, "Well, they said it had to be done BEFORE June, and we are in May...."

Hey, chalk up another successful prediction for the medical community.

If you look hard enough, couldn't you find that everyone has some sort of issue with their blood? Slightly below normal blood sugar level, slightly higher than normal blood pressure, etc. "Issue" is so vague and all-inclusive as to be meaningless. Somebody should tell him that.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the leading causes of death in the USA for 2006 were, in order, the following:


Heart disease
Cancer
Stroke
Chronic lower respiratory diseases
Accidents
Alzheimer's disease
Influenza and pneumonia
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, nephrosis
Septicemia.

In all of the above, excepting Alzheimer's, patients "have issues with their blood".
