'Told you so': psychic predicted Babs surgery

Wow! The doctors are psychic as well! ;)

Jest aside, I always like to point out that scientists are absolutely wonderful at predicting the future.

People like to make fun of the weather forecast, but for goodness sake, weather forecasting success makes any psychic look like a buffoon in comparison. Right now, the weatherforcasters are predicting that on Thursday, the local weather will be sunny and 75 degrees. You know what? They have a good chance of being right (probably more than 80%).

Imagine 10 000 years ago, someone announcing to the masses in ancient Egypt that 3 days from now, it will rain. Even though the sun is shining now, they better get their barley crops out of the ground before it rains 3 days from now. If they were correct on 80% of their forecasts, they would have been viewed as magic men.

But now we get mad if weather forecasts 3 days in the future make a mistake.

Another great example: Shoemaker-Levy.

Using scientific principles, these folks predict in March, 1993 that a comet would strike Jupiter in July of 1994. All of the telescopes of the world were focused on Jupiter at the time and watched the collision occur. Show me a psychic who could make that type of prediction that reliably? This is an amazing feat of predicting the future: they predicted an event that occurred 100s of millions of miles away, and more than 1 year in advance.

I've pointed this out many times: scientists predict the future. Very successfully, in fact.

Moreover, they can actually tell you how successfully. And when they say they have an 80% success rate, they actually have an 80% success rate. They can show you.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the leading causes of death in the USA for 2006 were, in order, the following:

Heart disease
Cancer
Stroke
Chronic lower respiratory diseases
Accidents
Alzheimer's disease
Influenza and pneumonia
Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, nephrosis
Septicemia.

In all of the above, excepting Alzheimer's, patients "have issues with their blood".

Ah, but Alzheimer's is genetic so you inherit it "by blood".

It's a bit disappointing that astrologers have never managed to predict the position of a new planet by observing the discrepancies between their predictions and reality.

As a medical Lab scientist one of the tests we do for people with heart valve disease is Blood cultures. Why? Because of the increased likelihood of the poor circulating blood around the valves encouraging the growth of bacteria causing plaques and a condition called Sub acute bacterial endocarditis.

http://www.rxmed.com/b.main/b1.illness/b1.1.illnesses/ENDOCARDITIS (BACTERIAL OR INFECTIVE).htm

(ie an infection, caused by the blood, also sub acute so not often picked up unless several sets of blood cultures are taken and incubated for longer than usual....not a test routinely done by a GP)

Now I don't know if Barbara had this, or had the risk for this to occur, but it is possible.

AND because it is not known what James EXACTLY said to her, her take of the events is merely anecdotal. .....Also I note from reading the link I gave lower back pain can be a symptom of this disease. Hit?....Maybe.

In the Post article linked in the OP, Van Praagh claims to have said "she had bad blood around her heart."

Ok then, let's assume he did say this; and further, giving him the most charitable assumptions we can, that it refers to the slower-acting of the heart valve infections* in your link: Subacute bacterial endocarditisWP. Note that this disease, "if left untreated, can worsen for up to one year before it is fatal." Therefore, under the most charitable assumptions to Van Praagh's psychic abilities, Barbara Walters would have died within 12 months of his detection of her ailment. Yet Van Praagh made his backstage psychic diagnosis -- claiming that "she had bad blood around her heart", at that moment! -- 22 months ago.

Is this a "hit"? The very simple fact that Barbara Walters is still alive must make the answer obvious to all but the very stupidest, deluded or dishonest. IOW, don't be surprised when Van Praagh claims it is.

*and unless the "lot of white blood cells" he claims to have seen were also 'psychic', he's implying an extant infection, not the potential for one.

Yes, the worst thing is that Van Praagh will crow about this "hit" until it becomes accepted as fact.

Oh lord! Van Praagh happens to be the guest tonight on Coast to Coast radio. He'll be crowing about his for sure.

I take it as entertainment only, but some of the people who phone up during open lines with their stories are pretty scary - it's hard to believe they can even function well enough to dial a phone.

I can only listen to it once in a while as I'm temporarily blinded, my eyes roll backwards when I hear about shadow people, chemtrails, stargates, remote viewing, moon bases, bigfoot, near death experiences, Roswell...

If you perchance listen, report back if you would be so kind.

I'll do my best to stay up and let everyone know what's been said. Hopefully they get to it in the first hour, or relatively soon in the second.

No, it's not. It's not a trivial condition which can be present for over a year without being picked up. It's not that hard to diagnose - most will be picked up on routine blood cultures. He didn't say she had an infection. And there is no report that she had an infection.

Partial C2C Transcript

As promised, here is what I gleaned from JVP’s talk with George Noory last night – May 17, 2010 on Coast to Coast.

George Noory welcomes James Van Praagh - says he's the most famous medium of our time. "He has the unique ability to communicate with the spirits of men, women, animals who have died."

Noory says JVP always gives people great advice and "calms people down who are petrified of dying." JVP says he's been dealing with the other side for over 25 years. It started when he was "under one year old." (He was born in 1958 according to IMDB) He strongly remembers being in his crib and seeing a man in the corner with white hair and blue eyes, his grandfather, who would show him a "horsey." What that means, I don't know. I don't know if he means he was shown the image of a horse by his grandfather or his grandfather was playing with a horse stuffed animal in the room.

Years later, about seven years old, his grandmother was flipping through photographs and he told her to go back to one, he said he used to see that man in his room. His grandmother revealed that it was a photograph of his grandfather (assuming that means her late husband) "whom he never met" that had white hair and blue eyes.

As a child, he claims to have been able to see auras around people, feel things about people , knowing things about people when he'd walk into a room - of course he thought everyone could do it. Noory says because of his conversations with JVP he has no doubts there is something on the "other side".

JVP thanks Noory for having him on the show because he thinks it helps many people question their belief system - things they don't believe in and are skeptical about, to "open up their minds to possibilities."

JVP plugs his new book, Unfinished Business. Took him close to twenty years to write it. He claims he received messages from spirits who have passed over during workshops and demonstrations, wrote them down and put them in a box. His "guides" told him to hang onto the messages, they'd be used for something some day.

Three years ago the guides told him now is the time to use the messages. He had hundreds of messages in the box from over the years, "the book is really a book from the spirit world." When he thinks of spirits, most messages are of regret - why couldn't I have loved more? Why couldn't I forgive you? And so on.

His guides tell him he needs to teach people they need to get rid of their unfinished business. They shouldn't cross over with would've, should've and could've. Note: At this point it seems to me that JVP sometimes says "guides" and other times "guide". At times it sounds as if he only has one guide, but other times sounds like he has multiple guides. Could just be my hearing.

Lots of talk about loving one another. JVP says we can communicate with the dead when sleeping - we leave our body at night when we go to sleep, we go to another dimension. Spirits can also communicate through smells like tobacco or perfume. They also communicate through electronics, lights flashing, computers, telephones. They can "change their electromagnetic fields in some way and impress it in some way to have a physical effect." If someone was an "electronics engineer they would affect electronics much easier, because they know how the mechanism works."

Noory says "doctors are starting to backup what you say." He names Jeffrey Long as one of the doctors. JVP says science is opening up and can't deny this anymore. Says we can't "carbon test a fourth dimension reality, we don't know how to do that, doesn't mean it doesn't exist." ????

JVP says he had an NDE a few years back. He had food poisoning, blacked out in his bathroom and his head hit the sink. He remembers seeing his bloodied body on the floor. Says everyone goes to their own memorial service or funeral.

JVP says he believes in reincarnation. "We have free will, free choice to come back, not only on this earth, but many different places, galaxies, forms of life." JVP claims to have seen many forms of E.T.'s, including lizard/reptilian people.

JVP rails a bit against people wanting to be mediums. Says you need to work at it, can't just take one class of "psychic development". You must develop your skills over several years because there is a "level of integrity" and you need to respet your clients. Likens being a medium to being a doctor, "you have people's lives in your hands".

JVP claims Heath Ledger came to him while shaving one day - Heath telepathically said, "I screwed up, I screwed up" and said something about his girlfriend. Two weeks later he heard that his girlfriend (I'm guessing Michelle Williams) was having "manifestations" in the room above her, furniture was moving around in the middle of the night.

Coming back from commercial JVP says he thinks George is very psychic because he mentioned his website (something they do every night for every guest) just as JVP was thinking about mentioning it. JVP plugs an upcoming tour with a UK Psychic.

JVP says America is "one of the lowest, unevolved" countries in terms of understanding/believing in mediumship/other side. He claims Australia is highly evolved, must be "Star People" because of the questions they ask - What soul group am I with? What star did I come from? "Questions that you would never hear in America."

Apparently JVP's sister has the gift as well - it's born into families. Her sister's husband committed suicide 10 years ago and said if the other side exists he'll "come back powerful" to her. Sister shows JVP photo of dead husband in photo as a spirit. JVP says it's the best spirit photo he's ever seen. Noory asks if it's on his website, he says he'll put it up tomorrow (today - May 18/2010).

Now they are taking calls. I'll listen to the rest later to see if there's any mention of the Barbara Walters thing. I find it very surprising it wasn't brought up immediately.

There's a link from C2C to his webiste: www.vanpraagh.com
When perusing it, I came across a section titled "EARLY LIFE". In it JVP claims the following when praying for god to show reveal himself:

"This belief was affirmed by an astonishing encounter that he had when he was only 8-years-old. The young boy was praying for God to reveal Himself to him, when an open hand appeared through the ceiling of James' room emitting radiant beams of light. Incredibly, he recounts, "I wasn't scared. It was actually very peaceful."

Under the section titled "REALIZING THE GIFT" it tells of how JVP attended a session with a medium - doesn't say what age he was. It says he was skeptical about it all, but eventually started to receive detailed messages from the beyond. I'd say this conflicts with the story he told at the beginning of his C2C interview, where he stated he could see his grandfather at less than one year of age. If he could see his dead grandfather, wouldn't he have already had a belief in it? How about the story from above when a hand entered his room?

I listened to the rest of the JVP C2C interview and he said nothing at all about Barbara Walters.

He did say Jennifer Love Hewitt is no longer wanting to do The Ghost Whisperer.

He also did a reading for a lady. She spoke about the love for her husband who passed away many years ago. JVP said, "You didn't remarry, did you?" He said it many times before she answered. When she did answer she said she had remarried, to which JVP immediately replied, "But you regretted it, didn't you?" She replied that she had.

I just read The Ghost Whisperer has been canceled. I doubt JVP got that information from the spirit world.

JVP: "I predict you have a blood problem."

News goons: "WOW! He knew, WOW just WOW."

Gag...choke...are they really that stupid.

Will the world never grow up?
