(Shrug) the law of return treats all Jews as citizens of Israel if they so desire (barring special cases such as criminals, etc.) This is no more "racist" than the US giving a visa to someone born abroad to American citizens, because Judaism is a nationality as well as a religion or an ethnic group.

Of course its not the same. A person born in the USSR and who suffers absolutely no persecution or discrimination there, can walk up to immigration at Tel Aviv airport and be waved in, while someone whose father was born in Israel has his nosed pressed up a barbed wire fence.

The difference is one has the right ethnicity, the other has not. Obviously Israeli citizens who have kids abroad should be allowed to bring their kids back, but that as completely different.

The law of return, incidentally, decides who a "Jew" is for immigration purposes based deliberately on the Nuremberg laws (with the addition of someone who married a Jew abroad as a "Jew" for immigration purposes, so as to not break up families).

I have often noticed there was quite a bit of similarity in the 1948 campaigns in persuading Arabs to flee with atrocity stories (based on some key events), which is exactly how Hitler boasted in his table talk: "Its good if the terror (schrecken) that we are exterminating Jewry goes before us"

Not everybody receives automatic citizenship, but everybody can apply to get one. Just for example, only recently quite a few Black Sudanese Muslims got Israeli visas as refugees from the Jihadis' genocide.

Much as I admire Israel taking in a one off intake of 600 Dafurese on a temporary residency visas, that must be renewed yearly. I feel that it is not entirely germaine to the discussion

And this was not in response to some media campaign that was making us look bad internationally.

Another difference is that New Zealand expects and wants these refugees to become citizens and the majority of them will. We do not see it as an unfortunate concession made for political reasons.
