Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

So then there probably was a powerful light that Paul and the other people with him saw?
maybe... Who knows.
I'm willing to believe there was a bright light. That happens on cloudy days when the sun breaks through. it can be quite startling, especially if it happens during a sun rise or sun set. It doesn't require a belief that light was magic.

Now if you wish for me to believe that it was a magic light, then I will disagree with you.

So, you agree that Paul likely hallucinated the vision?

So then there probably was a powerful light that Paul and the other people with him saw?

Come on -
even if some people DID see a "powerful light" - so what?

Is that the BEST evidence you can quote?!
A set of differing legends about someone else seeing a light?

That's it ?!!!
That's your evidence for Jesus?

Here is the THIRD time I have answered this :

I do NOT think Pilate met Jesus, because Jesus was a MYTH.

Then who taught all the teachings that Thomas Jefferson cut out and pasted in a book and said were the most moral and sublime he ever read. Did lying fisherman write them?

That's why Christians had to FORGE letters from Pilate about Jesus - because he actually said NOTHING about Jesus.

What letters from Pontius Pilate? Are you saying Christians wrote letters to the Roman senator and historian Tacitus lying about what a governor of a land hundreds of miles away did?

Kapyong,
Is this your first entry into the convoluted world that is Religious Discussions with DOC? Yes, that IS his evidence for Jesus. He's just "putting it out there so people can decide". If you don't agree then you had better keep those thoughts to yourself or you'll hurt your credability on these forums where your words are out there for everyone to see how dishonest you are. And if you directly question DOC, you must be attacking the messenger, which is against the Randi Rules.

Seriously, do your blood pressure a favor, use DOC as a springboard, but do not; I repeat do NOT think that he's going to engage in honest debate. He's not. We've tried. Me, joobz, Hokuele, even Akhenaten and others have all tried to get him to look at thinkgs critically, but he seems to be impervious to all attempts. We've gone through drinking games, and now one round of DOC bingo (now with 50% more fallicies!) all to help up the entertainment value. The lurkers get it, they've figured out that DOC is dishonest in his debate tactics, continuiously bringing up discredited sources (remember the racist site he used in the TJ thread? or the so-called "Jew site"?) and we go round and round.

Face it, you're in a thread that purports to give "Evidence for why we know the NT writers told the truth" that has gone on for longer than 10,000 posts. Seriously? It couldn't have been that hard to come up with something that wasn't total ******** by now. So, we slog on. Entertaining ourselves, maybe entertaining others, hopefully eductating some.

Ok, enough maudlin crap. I say we bring back the DOC drinking game WHILE we play DOC bingo! we can get smashed AND win "valuable" prizes!

DOC, in an earlier post I mentioned that "appeal to authority" is a logical fallacy. It is not a valid argument. Thomas Jefferson obviously never met Jesus, so there is no reason for you to bring him up. Really, you don't understand this?

You do realize that a good number of those "moral and sublime" teachings are in no way unique or original to Jesus, yes?

What letters from Pontius Pilate?

The forged ones that were written by early Christians to support their beliefs. Rather like the forged ones attributed to Paul that made it into the New Testament.

You mean all the non-supernatural accounts from the gospels? Yeah, it could have been lying fishermen, or lying woodworkers, or lying stone carvers. Whatever.

What letters from Pontius Pilate?
I thnk he meant "Tacitus", not "Pilate"

This is an absurd statement. My 1600 posts in this 10,000+ post thread are evidence of my honest debate.

DOC, if we all do parodies of your arguments then that doesn't leave anyone making the actual arguments.

You're supposed to be the straight man, and we do the jokes.

Write it down somewhere and memorise it, will ya? You're confusing the newcomers.

So then there probably was a powerful light that Paul and the other people with him saw?

That means that Paul saw Jesus in the same sense that any modern Christian sees Jesus.

No. They're just evidence of lack of communication skills or lack of evidence for why we know the NT writers told the truth.

C'mon we both know he wouldn't recognize a parody if it followed him home and mugged him in the bedroom.

Um.....maybe you have a different definition of honest. One that doesn't involve actually being honest?

Like the golden rule?

"An early example of the Golden Rule that reflects the Ancient Egyptian concept of Maat appears in the story of The Eloquent Peasant which is dated to the Middle Kingdom (c. 2040 - 1650 BCE): "Now this is the command: Do to the doer to cause that he do".[5] An example from a Late Period (c. 1080 - 332 BCE) papyrus: "That which you hate to be done to you, do not do to another".[6] It also appears in the Book of the Dead (1580-1350 BCE): "He sought for others the good he desired for himself. Let him pass."

Or were you talking about the morals where Jesus says it's ok to beat slaves? That one may be original to him.... :)

Hee-hee. once again DOC gives us his patented "post the statement out of context" gambit. Although, I do like how this time he gives tacit endorsement to the rest of what I was saying. Only his honesty is debatable, I guess.

I'm just wondering when I get to go back to being the Official DOC Attackersm?
