Evidence for why we know the New Testament writers told the truth.

Since I'm probably on DOC's ignore list, I'll ask if somone who he can see ask by proxy:

How about Hypaitia of Alexandria?

One of the greatest movies of all time - Groundhog Day! If you haven't seen it in a while, give it another go. No matter what your politics, you may enjoy this commentary on the film by Jonah Goldberg.

Yes! Fantastic film. I was married on Feb 2 and one of my brilliant guests gave us the dvd as a wedding present so that I would never forget my anniversary. 8 years and counting - haven't forgotten and still one of my favourite movies.

OT - I was reminded of the movie by the repitition. Please, please, please - matyrs, presidents, ramsey, number of posts etc have been responded to and ripped to shreds as the pathetic arguments that they are. Please don't just ignore the responses - rebut them or acknowledge the point. Waiting 3 pages and then trotting out the same arguments again and again and again IS DISHONEST.

Sorry for being away so long:

Well Jesus did tell the apostles there was some things he did not teach because they were more then they could bear and that he would send the Holly Spirit who would teach all things. The bible also said Jesus said many things that were not recorded just before he was resurrected.

Slavery could have been one of those things he did not think the apostles could bear at that time or slavery could have been one of those many things he talked about that was not recorded.

... what?

You're saying "Don't own slaves" was MORE THAN THEY COULD BEAR?

"Don't buy and sell people" was so horrifying a thought that Jesus had to keep it SECRET?

To which the standard reply is: no, no they were "servants". Servants that could be beaten to death - as long as they took their time dying. Servants that you had to release after a set time - unless you tricked them with a wife/children that you kept.

Or maybe, you'll be directed to # number of posts that already covered it....is that sonny and cher on the radio in the backround?

Yikes! Congratulations! You and Joobz (and others) have patience/stamina/sheer-bloody-mindedness that surely has a divine source. By the time the matyrs/presidents/ramsey/number-of-posts came around for the FIFTH TIME after repeatedly being dealt with I lost the will to endure such intellectual dishonesty. I don't know what iteration we're up to, but maybe Doc should check his calender - just to make sure it's not still Feb 2. (Guess the movie reference)
my emboldening

The bolded bit covers my motivation pretty well.

I didn't have a clue about 2 February until carlitos enlightened me, and a quick Google tells me that the metaphor is spot-on.

Good one :)

Even Christ couldn't convince everyone, which is why some decided to leave his group and some decided to nail him to a cross. Colitos has the right to his opinion, just as the people who left Christ's discipleship, and those who hung him to a cross had the free will right to their opinion. My 1600 posts are out there, people have the free will right to think of them as they choose. I asked Colitos for specific posts that caused him problems and he chose not to give any so I guess I can't do much more. I do hope he reads all my posts though if he hasn't. Or books by Norman Geisler, Ralph Muncaster, and Josh McDowell (and of course the bible).

How on earth would anybody who witnesses this Jesus walk on water, bring back to life Lazarus, turn water into plonk, calm a storm, etc, etc leave him?
Were they blind to his obvious god given powers? Wouldn't you think they would worship him as god himself, far from ''leaving'' him.
If such a man appeared today, even though we know the workings of the laws of physics, he would surely be regarded as something out of this world.

No, you guys (non-gender specific) are the fantastic heavy lifters around here, while the rest of us just watch, learn something new (I know I have) and maybe throw in a snarky comment now and then when we are actually able to follow what's going on.

Btw, in the movie Bill Murray wakes up every morning to Sonny and Cher's "I've got you baby" on the clock radio. Now that I've glommed onto this metaphor, I'll be running it into the ground. That and the Judas thing. Until an non-theist that I respect tells me to stop, I'll be asking it: theists, how did Judas die?

OK, I know that I'm way late, but can someone PM me a bingo card? I just want to see it.

Already been done, my friend, but repetition is par for the course here

:)

Yes, very good example. For that travesty alone christianity deserved to be abolished forever.

Nothing can ever make up for probably the single stupidest act in the history of history.

Despicable.

DOC doesn't give a fig, apparently. I may as well go and throw another shrimp on the barbie.

You're good mate.

Everyone has their own trump question for DOC, and it's every player's implicit right to play it at frequent intervals,

Just don't expect an answer, for that way lies despair.

The only reason for the trump questions to exist is for the benefit of those playing along at home.

:)

lol :D

I sets 'em up, you knocks 'em down. This thread is a tribute to the incredible co-operative effort that humans are capable of.

I know we're just apes, but still:

What a piece of work is a man, how noble in reason,
How infinite in faculties, in form and moving how express and admirable;
In action how like an angel, in apprehension how like a god!

The beauty of the world, the paragon of animals—
And yet, to me, what is this quintessence of dust?

Man delights not me - nor and woman neither also,
though and by your smiling you seem to say so [too].

I took some liberties at the end there.

How on earth can you mix up this thread which is about evidence for the NT authors telling the truth with something that just goes on and on, never reaching an end?
Nominated!

Every hundred years or so I check in with this thread to see if any evidence has yet been posted. I'm still waiting.

I claim to have met Luke Skywalker on the road Mos Eisley.

Now what?

If you wrote 13 chapters (Paul wrote 13 biblical books) in the greatest selling book of all time and were called a spiritual genius in a religious encyclopedia like Paul was, I might take a closer look at your claim.
