Tea Party Convention

Alright, enough about Palin's palm piloting...

Stewart is gonna have a field day with this.

Is there any way we can continue, or begin a discussion of the Tea Party and what ramifications it holds for the GOP?

sure.

utter chaos and failure in 2012.

the GOP needs to marginalize this anti-intellectualism that is creeping up its leg. its gonna strangle them.

what ever happened to GOPers like George H W Bush? Jim Baker?

does the GOP really wanna turn into the party of bigots, bubbas, and Bible-thumpers?

um....photoshop on a video? how does one do that?

I'd call it a euphemism. Given the degree these days to which even someone on their home computer can alter a video, though of course it's not done using Photoshop but with other applications, it's certainly not out of the realm of possibility that it's a fake.

I, too, find it hard to believe she's so bad that she couldn't even remember the simple talking points scrawled on her hand. Not that I'm defending her by any means, just that for her to be that bad is remarkable. She also waves that hand around a fair bit; one would think she'd be a little reluctant to do that since it increases the chances of someone spotting the writing.

Is that still image close up an enhanced frame from the video, or it is a separate still photo image taken by a photographer? Who took the video anyway?

all good questions.

though, you do see her open her palm, glance at her hand, and then answer a question after a short hesitancy.

Obama used a teleprompter!

Obama used a teleprompter!

Obama used a teleprompter!

Obama used a teleprompter!

Obama used a teleprompter!

Obama used a teleprompter!

yes....for very long speeches.

did he use a teleprompter when he came to the GOP House meeting? nope.

teleprompters are used for very long....and very complicated speeches.

not to recall 4 pretty simple talking points.

Still photos tend to be much higher res than video, so the image where you can actually read the words on her hand would be from a photo. If you look at the viral video that's going around, it's impossible to read what is on her hand, even when they freeze-frame it.

Right here.

35 + 26 = 61.

This isn't a democrat thing, it isn't a republican thing. It's a human thing. We're generally rather silly creatures and our biases drives to do or believe silly things regardless of our affiliations.

"Turning the United States into a Gulag" was a rhetorical flourish, but the 61% was very specific and you were wll within your rights to ask.

You are using the VERY SAME MATH AND TACTICS that you would CRUCIFY a truther for using...stop it. Just because it is politics, does not mean you should reduce your standards, or let your sanity fly out the window.

The Tea Party, if it does anything of significance, will be a blessing in disguise for the DEMs. It will split the independent votes that would normally have gone to the GOP. I do not think many Democratic leaning Independents will become Tea Party fans...

We will soon see, won't we.

Bravo - I was hoping I wasn't the only one seeing the irony in action.

Well, we had one speaker pine for the pre civil rights act laws restriciting voting rights, and another promoted birtherism.

I'd say that the ramifications aren't that good.

Yes, it will. Third party talk is nonsense in the US. It is wrong to marginalize or belittle all people who call themselves Tea Partiers, though, since they are one reason the liberal health care initiative stalled for so long, and simply because it is unfair to equate people like Breitbart and Farah.

Except the poll didn't ask "do you think 9/11 was an inside job".. It asked "do you think Bush had advance notice about 9/11".. Two completely different things..

ETA: looks like several people already pointed this out..
I'll point it out again because it's worth repeating until it sinks in to the thicker skulls.

, and breathe, in then out...

To be fair, this can be tricky in practice. I once got confused and just kept breathing in over and over. The results were not pretty...

Sporanox, you keep bringing this up in various forms to distance Farah from the Tea Party, but I must say, that quite frankly, you are wrong, and it is is very fair to link them.

The Tea Party convention invited Farah to speak at thier convention. Not only that, they gave him the keynote spot for the night. To claim that his views are not at least somewhat representative of the party as a whole is just denial.
