Why Not Palin for President?

*yawn*...typical patronizing and assumed superiority that are such well known leftist mentalities... yep, they are all simpletons compared to you guys.

Well please Whiplash, give us a SANE, GROWN UP, INTELLIGENT reason why Sarah Palin would make a good POTUS, and good world leader.

TAM:)

Are these YOUR requirements? I was giving what I (me personally) would want in a leader of the free world. There is obviously a difference in what I (and most sane, rational, intelligent people) would WANT, and what is required...but if your people want to SETTLE for Palin, fine...like I said, I would contemplate moving to Europe if that happens.

TAM:)
I suggest you look at the 44 people who actually did the job, and remember what that job is.

Leader of the free world is a collateral duty.

And yes, has to be born here.

As to "you people" and Palin, you are directed to talk to those who want her to be Pres, as I am not in that company. I don't think she is ready for prime time.

Is this not simply the reversal of the "typical" patronizing and assumed superiority that are such well known rightist mentalities... yep, they are all elitist snobs compared to you guys?

I've heard you discuss, around the board, your own personal awaking so far as seeing and recognizing the blind, arrogant attitudes on both "sides" of the political landscape, so I'm not suggesting this attitude is yours, Whiplash. But we see both attitudes -- the ones about lefties being elitist snobs and about the righties being half-wit country folk.

I tend to think that it takes a half-wit to put someone down for being educated. How can that be defended? On the other hand, it certainly takes an elitist snob to assume that anyone that disagrees with you is a half-wit hick. It's a good thing these base characterizations cannot be accurate in a general, majority sense.

  • She wants to outlaw the teaching evolution
  • She adopted her daughter's baby and pretended it was hers
  • She thinks Africa is a country
  • She had sex with John McCain in order get the nomination
  • She wants Alaska to secede from the union
  • She spent a lot of campaign money on clothes for herself and her family
  • She has a lot of lawsuits against her
  • She was in a beauty contest
  • She has a hard time talking without notes
  • Her book was totally ghostwritten
  • She wants polar bears to become extinct
  • She tried to fire a librarian in Wasilla
  • She tried to ban books in Wasilla
All of the above are things that have nothing to do with why I dislike the politics of Sarah Palin. Some of them aren't even true.

I dislike her as a potential powerful politician because she is naive, right wing, and reactionary. Also, based on her history, I have no faith in her willingness or ability to fulfill her oath of office.

I'm trying to understand why people either like or dislike Palin. If Palin was quietly religious, was for stem cell research and pro choice - would this make her a better candidate for those who lean more to the left? Does she not have some redeeming qualities? What about the work she has done in Alaska? What do you think would happen if she was elected president of the US?

Her not having an Ivy League education is a plus for me. But on the down side, her not having any political or economic education is a huge downside. During the last 8 years, we've seen what a president lacking mental dexterity can do to a country.

She did have the more difficult task of being in a state that already had one politician found guilty of ethical violations. Perhaps the magnifying glass was trained more acutely than it would have otherwise been.
One?
If only.

I think the latest count is 26 or so.

All that is required for an American president:

Intelligent
35 or older
Puts America first
Can think long term (which means making good deals and good allies)
Understands fiscal responsiblity
Understands strategy
Speaks clearly
Can lead

That's it.

Sets a pretty low bar, but a few of these are too high for Ms Palin.
3, 4, and 5 in particular. Also 7.

I have already grown up.

As it happens, I have grown up in a world on which the US president, whoever it may be at any given moment, has very great influence. Therefore, I am keenly interested in who happens to hold the office. And I am disturbed when I see how profoundly unqualified some of the major parties´ candidates are - I mean, it is one thing if you want your own country ruined, but please leave mine in one piece.

What damage did the male version of Palin do to Germany in recent years?

But how could she be those things and still be the conservative talking points machine we have all come to know and love(if everyone in their own way)?

I said, "your" people, not you people. I meant, if as a union, the USA decides they want her.

Until I read your "some of them aren't even true" bit, I was like "what did I miss?"

You misunderstand.

I'm not saying the man was Einstein. Nor am I saying he was like Reagan, running the show.

I'm just saying that, looking at the evidence, I'm not convinced he was a complete idiot.

This depends on how much you can consider someone smart if they place ideology over facts.

Evidence disagrees with you on everying but the age thing.

Bingo. Call me insane, but as your next door neighbor, I want your leader, the leader of the free world, to be one of the smartest guys in the room...not the guy I wanna have a beer with.

I'm one of those liberals who has become pretty lukewarm about Obama, but he happens to be both the smartest guy in the room and the guy I wanna have a beer with, more than any president or candidate I can think of.

What damage did the male version of Palin do to Germany in recent years?

Perhaps you're not familiar with the worldwide economic crisis and recession we're in, caused largely by the subprime mortgage collapse (an almost exclusively US phenomenon)? There's also quite a bit of blame that can be laid at the feet of the Fed, which fueled the subprime mortgage bubble -- but that's not really the president's fault except that he appointed the various people who run the Fed.

Yah, I was thinking that (that I would ALSO like to have a beer with him) as I was writing it.

Not in evidence by your posting habits, but I'll take your word for it.

Globalism touches us all. Sorry you are having trouble dealing with that. When can we count on Germany taking on a leadership role in global, rather than regional, geopolitics?

Are y'all willing to pay the price, to bear that burden? "

I'd be interested to find out, by action. I for one would welcome greater German involvement in geopolitics.

You appear to be unable to read today. When you can, we can discuss whatever, though it has already been pointed out that I forgot the born in the US requirement, which is a bit of an oversight.
