Moderated Obama birth certificate CT / SSN CT / Birther discussion

bolding mine

I continue to be quite bothered by this argument, even though I hate birthers.

Calling someone a racist for not liking someone is no argument at all. It's a personal attack. It's something that cannot be proven. It's irresponsible. I think it's actually reprehensible in some ways.

Can't we be bigger than this? I've been trying to be more open minded about the way people on the left think and the common strawmen against them. This sort of thing doesn't help one bit. It fits all too well into the idea that you see people on the right as racist bigots who are otherwise unworthy of any respect.

Not that you don't have something of a point (I think we may reasonably concede that not ALL birthers are racists), but do you seriously think that if Obama's father was a white man born in, say, England or Germany that there would be any of this "birther" nonsense? Sometimes when it walks and quacks like a duck it really is a duck.

There is one birther out there who always bristles at being called a Racist. He then very carefully explains that Obama is not really an African American but a Mulatto.

You know I don't naturally assume every birther is a racist, it is just when conversing with one and they bring out terms like mulatto, zebra, etc I tend to believe they are racist.

When I am arguing with a birther and they call me a "house-N word" or "boy" I tend to know what kind of person I am talking too.

HOLY POOP! BATMAN!!!

Orly's at it again. Only this time without Charles Lincoln to rein her in she goes way off the deep end. from the OC Register Her latest filing in the Keyes v. Obama case.

http://totalbuzz.freedomblogging.com/files/2009/12/orly12-3-09a.pdf

she also has an attachment that alleges that Obama is from Equatorial Guinea.

Interesting. I also note the stylistic dissimilarity between this filing and her previous filings in various courts.

If the Bar Association notices this dissimilarity as well, I think she's a dead woman. I can't imagine a better "smoking gun" that she's been acting as a stalking horse for a disbarred attorney.

Oh, you mean it is mere coincidence that 0% of all white presidents and 100% of all non-white presidents so far have been targetted by this sort of thing?

I guess you also think that the KKK isn´t racist and it was mere coincidence that their victims were all black?

Anyone with an automotive mindset able to identify what dangerous and life threatening piece of her car was disconnected from the exploded parts view in her filing?

It looks like a vacuum hose to an emission control device.

ETA

it looks like it's part of the fuel evaporator assembly on a Toyota.

He must be from Barry Island, Wales, and therefore a UK citizen.

No, I think it means he's from the Barrytown of the Steely Dan song:

Don't believe I'm taken in by stories I have heard
I just read the Daily News and swear by every word

And don't think that I'm out of line
For speaking out for what is mine
I'd like to see you do just fine

But look at what you wear
And the way you cut your hair

I can see by what you carry
That you come from Barrytown

Sample size, man, sample size. I agree to an extent, but this is poor reasoning.

I think there are some blatantly racist birthers out there, but a lot are suffering from a more subtle form of prejudice they might not be aware of. I don't have the link on hand, but I remember a study showing that people viewed a select group of famous white Europeans and Canadians as "more American" than a select group of African Americans.

The name Barack Hussein Obama is undoubtably a biasing factor as well, but that's more of an anti-Muslim or xenophobic bias.

Combine the two and it's obvious that it effects people, especially the fringe right. People like Beck and Limbaugh have blatantly tried to label Obama is a racist without evidence and tried to scare people into thinking he's going to try to screw over whites at the expense of his bruthas. You'll notice many fringies also love to emphasize the Hussein in his name, because they think it's scary.

If Palin really wants a chance at 2012, she will disregard the Birtherism and stick to the issues.
