Palin Goes Rogue on Vegans

But who he is doesn't matter -- I agree with his statements (the two that I previously said I agreed with).

Had to imagine the dearth of quotes about Palin that one would actually refer to Matt Damon as an authority on anything more substantive than whitening toothpaste.

At least we know that Damon can read and construct a relevant arguement for his position. And he knows what questions to ask when assessing the intelligence of a candidate for an important position.

I need to know if she really thinks dinosaurs were here 4000 years ago, that's an important...I want to know that. I really do. Because she's going to have the nuclear codes.

I agree that it is a little disturbing that someone who believes that the world is that young could blow it all away.

Damon seems brighter to me than three of the last four presidents before Obama.

Since I agree with these quotes, it doesn't really deflect from my opinion of Matt Damon.

This doesn't bode well for JREF skeptics who, like Damon, took the quote at face value without ever deigning to authenticate the origin of the quote.

"These allegations appear to stem from a blog post that included "fake Governor Sarah Palin quotes" made up by a blogger at unbearablebobness.typepad.com. He states that his blog post was an attempt to satirize Gov. Palin's beliefs, and does not reflect those beliefs in any way.

http://unbearablebobness.typepad.com/my_weblog/2008/08/governor-sarah-palin-quotes.html

The direct quote from unbearablebobness.typepad.com is as follows:

"God made dinosaurs 4,000 years ago as ultimately flawed creatures, lizards of Satan really, so when they died and became petroleum products we, made in his perfect image, could use them in our pickup trucks, snow machines and fishing boats. Now, as to the ANWR, Todd and I often enjoying caribou hunting and one year we shot up a herd big time, I mean I personally slaughtered around 40 of them with my new, at the time, custom Austrian hunting rifle. And guess what? That caribou herd is still around and even bigger than ever. Caribou herds actually need culling, be it by rifles or wolves, or Exxon-Mobil oil rigs, they do just great!"

The post concludes with the following disclaimer:
"Disclaimer: She didn't actually say these things - I made them up. But thanks for all the visits."

It thus appears that, to a large extent, people have attributed this belief to Gov. Palin after believing that she actually made what many believe to be 'fictional' statements."

Damon does not provide any basis for his desire to ask Palin about her beliefs. Accordingly, it is unclear whether Damon's assertion stems from a mistaken belief that Palin actually made the statements attributed to her on the aforementioned internet blog.

So why does Palin have a thing against extraterrestrials from the star system Vega?

Oh--that's right, she's anti-alien, isn't she? ;)

ETA: Wait a second--she's not dissing Wayne Newton, is she?

(Or is there now a political party or PAC or some such of vegans warranting the capital letter?)

Wait a second, Palin is a YEC. How did Cicero miss this fact?

If the vapid twit from Wasilla had not said some equally stupid craop from time to time, nobody would have taken the spoof that seriously.

However, having her dead-to-rights on other charges of gross stupidity, why would anybody bother looking for the exact source of the quote that she believes in the Young Earth crap?

Bull flops. He heard that somewhere, and probably had other things to do than spend all day googling what sounded like something that would come out of the mouth of a religious whackadoodle who thinks that witches are out to put a mojo on her. Just saying that he would like to ask that of her indicates a lot more intellectual curiousity on the part of Mr Damon than is displayed by any moron who thinks that Glenn Beck is brilliant.

Confirmation bias?

But you do make a bit of a point. If you have a pattern of a certain behavior, some things attributed to you are more credible, when examined uncriticlaly, than others.

I mean, who saw Paris Hilton coming out for celibacy?

She likes her steak medium-well. What an ultramaroon.

Is that true? In that case, what a savage. I have avoided piling on to this point in many of the Palin threads, but this really gets under my skin.
RANT! Most game (and cuts of beef) should be served as close to rare as possible otherwise it gets really tough and tasteless. There is no option on this. If you have another opinion, you are wrong. Makes me wonder if she eats what she kills.

Medium rare suffices, but yeah, med well to well, ya may as well just grind it into burger meat.

I would not advise eating rare bear. Any predator/scavenger is subject to parasitic disease. Pot-roasting (loves me some Sauerbraten, I does!) is probably the best way to serve meat with so little fat as venison. The further north you go, the greater the risk of trichinosis. (The eggs need to freeze at some point.)

"Most" was my cop-out to cover bear and that ilk. Pot-roasting venison is a sin!

"I eat pork chops, thick bacon burgers, and the seared fatty edges of a medium-well-done steak. But I especially love moose and caribou. " Sarah Palin

Perhaps she only eats the "seared fatty edges" of a steak cooked to medium- well. She doesn't say how she prefers her moose and caribou. If the steak is a poor cut, eating it rare/medium/well would not be an epicurian delight.

•Consumers (52%) prefer burgers cooked well done.
•Consumers (49%) prefer their steaks medium rare to medium; 45% prefer their steaks medium well to well done.
•Roasts cooked to medium well or well done are preferred by 63% of all consumers.
•Consumers in the North Central and South prefer their beef more well done.
•African Americans and Hispanics opt for well done beef more than other groups.
•Women prefer their burgers cooked to a higher degree of doneness than men.

Except that even when ground into burger meat, it is still better rare or medium rare. Nothing quite like a Medium Rare Buffulo Burger for me.

The main reason to over cook meat is to protect yourself from illnesses that result in how the meat was handled/processed. If you controlled the entire process from kill to consume yourself there should be no reason to cook it more than Medium Rare.

Argumentem ad populum.

I know it will sound elitist, but the fact that the majority of Americans prefer well-done meat only proves that in this case the majority of Americans are wrong.

De gustibus non est disputandum.

I think it's difficult to make a case that a value judgment given as such is "wrong".

Argumentum ad populum as opposed to Argumentum ad verecundiam? Better add Chinese to the "wrong" list, and I have noticed many Gemans prefer their meat well-done.

Has anyone here had a chance to eat Kangaroo?

I have a buddy who has a yearly BBQ event where he selects an exotic meat (we are in Canada).

It was 'roo this year, and holy crap, that was like beef mixed with butter. SO AWESOME!

crazy expensive though...

and yes, my gf's family ALL eat their steaks well done or medium well. Some aversion to the juices and paranoia of them I think.

We always go medium rare and look down on them for their awful taste. lol

Fact? Where did you get this? unbearablebobness.typepad.com ? What does YEC have to do with Damon falling for a hoax, and those on the JREF who share Damon's intellectual curiosity about this quote?

Palin thinks God is behind all evolution. Other than that, do you have any direct quotes from Palin where she says the world was created in 7 days and is only 5,000 or 10,000 years old?
