Australians limited to 24 cans of beer a day

Sir Les Patterson = Australian Bacchus
so a mere 9 litres limit @ 4.5% alcohol on average!

There was a show on somewhere the other night (I didn't watch) titled the Man Inside Dame Edna, or something similar. I guess that would be Sir Les Patterson.

Just thought I'd mention that in passing, in the hope that someone will be pleasantly surprised by my so doing.

Never know your luck in the big city.

ETA: My mistake. In reviewing the thread I see that someone has indeed mentioned it. What a coincidence!

I should add that this "news" is at least a year old, with similar "restrictions" last year if not earlier. But, hey, if it gives a pommy media outlet an opportunity to sink the boots into a small and shrinking group of rev-heads and pretend they represent the country, so be it.

There were over 300,000 people visit the Dali exhibition in Melbourne over the past few weeks with not a drunken punch thrown. Not newsworthy though I know.

Sorry about the serious note.

I don't think they are shrinking, except maybe as a percentage. Things like Bathurst and the Deniliquin Ute Muster are achieving record crowds.

Well, if I go to the web site below and tell it I'm a 180 pound male, living in Arizona who has had 126 beers over 168 hours (18 a day) I'm still perfectly sober. So I'd need to slam a six pack every day on top of that to get drunk right?

That reminded me of this:

You won’t find it in the Guinness Book of World Records, but Andre the Giant holds the world record for the largest number of beers consumed in a single sitting. These were standard 12-ounce bottles of beer, nothing fancy, but during a six-hour period Andre drank 119 of them. It was one of the few times Andre got drunk enough to pass out, which he did in a hallway at his hotel. His companions, quite drunk themselves, couldn’t move the big man. Fearing trouble with cops, they stole a piano cover from the lounge and draped it over Andre’s inert form. He slept peacefully until morning, unmolested by anyone. Perhaps the hotel people thought he was a piece of furniture.

Think about it: 119 beers in six hours. That’s a beer every three minutes, non stop. That’s beyond epic. It’s beyond the ken of mortal men. It’s god-like.

Vegimite is Satans gift to bad food.

I believe you have been mentioned by some fruitcake in this context in another thread. I think I insulted you there too, as I will again now. Consider yourself taunted for a secondde taime!

Boo, Hiss.

Vegemite is almost as good as NZ Marmite which is almost as good as Promite.

Gradually Tainting Credibility

I heartily endorse this event or product.

We'll call that a Wild Card then, shall we? Do you enjoy cake?

So what about that new vegemite with the cream cheese. It doesn't taste so good on its own but spread on a sao-like biscuit it tastes quite good.

I wouldn't have thought to combine the two but it works well.

Awesome³

I could believe that anything is possible with Vegemite. Warp Drive. Weather Control. World Peace. Anything with a 'W' in it, such as 'dewicious cheese'.

My Darling's breakfast on Her way out the door to work was a single slice of toast with Vegemite and strawberry jam which I prepared well before the Sun came up to reveal The Horror™. The smell was as normal - Vegemite is undisguisable in that regard.

I have heard that the abo's cant buy beer and pornography, is this true?

I wouldn't say "abo" when referring to the Aborigines. It's considered racist.

You are sort of right. They can't buy beer and porn in certain places in the Northern Territory after the Northern Territory National Emergency Response was implemented. I don't really understand the porn ban, I think that they've decided that the easiest way to stop child abuse was to just block all porn altogether.

Other then that they can buy beer and porn pretty much everywhere else in Australia.

First, if you ever do see an aboriginal, don't call him that if you like your face the way it is.

Depends where you are, but in the areas you can't buy alcohol, no-one can, no matter what race they are.

There are prescribed areas, in various parts of the country where alcohol is strictly prohibited.

Anecdotally:

I've seen what I think are two main reasons that alcohol problems occur.

One is extreme boredom on the part of the Aboriginal drinkers.

The other is greed on the part of the white purveyors.

I am not trying to apportion blame here. The Government has mismanaged some things, the Native Land Councils have done the same. Some people have done the wrong thing and spoiled it for the rest.

This is not the venue, and I'm not the person to apportion blame or even suggest a solution. It's being worked on by people who are doing their best. Apart from all that, I think that the situation would be similar in many places.

Pornography? I've not noted that to be an issue at all, let alone subject to regulation. I can't even see how pornography could cause anywhere near the damage that alcohol and petrol sniffing cause. They are tragedies, porn is just good for ighting the fire with, after you've read the articles. ;)

Petrol is also restricted in some areas, because of the abovementioned sniffing. The younger fellers are mostly into that, and it's very damaging. Worse than the grog.

The abbreviation of Aboriginal to Abo (capitalised at least, please, these are my countrymen, not some sheep.) is fraught. I find it tolerable, and so do many Aboriginals, but many don't. I think it safer to go with Aboriginal.

We don't discuss eskos in Alaska or afros in Africa so I think it's fair not to discuss "abos"

I'll stop here, just outside Derail City and have a smoko now.
