Or 4 litres (6 bottles?) of wine! I'm guessing the words limit and restraint mean something completely different down under.

The limits - and a tougher police presence around the racetrack - were greeted with dismay by some race-goers when they were first introduced.
Many fans making the annual pilgrimage continue to feel they should be able to drink as much as they like while watching the race.

I don't think I would be able to stand up let alone fight someone after all that.
 
You've got to be kidding me. They are "limited" to 24 cans of beer in a day...and they complain that it is too strict?!

The only way this makes any sense is if a dude is buying for four of his buddies who are joining him that day and they are all there from 1 pm to closing time. Then I'd see why he'd get ticked that the guy behind the counter won't sell him more than 24.

I'm a 5'4'' woman of skinny build so maybe I have a low tolerance compared to Aussie racing fans, all of whom look like they could give Giants fans a run for their money, but I'm tipsy if I drink 2 or 3 in a row.

After 24, I'd be dead.

Fortunately, most of us have a non-drinking mate that we drag along to this type of event. That way you can drink his slab as well, which at least is almost enough to settle the dust, although you couldn't legitimately call it "drinking".

Four litres of wine wouldn't be taken to the races in bottles. (no glass allowed, hence the tinnies rather than stubbies)

Four litres of wine = One Chateau Collapsible.
 
I'm guessing 24 cans of Special Brew would be absolutely fine for a day at the races. And a sick bag.

I have a yarn about a similar product available in Australia. I shall tell it.


I'm a former Army aircraft technician, and on long flights we had to use an arrangement very much like the Stadium Pal.

A similar exercise to a long flight was a wonderful institution known as The Formal Dining-in Night in the Sergeants' (or Officers') Mess. On these occasions, one was expected to remain seated for three or four hours whilst drinking steadily, if not copiously. Excusing oneself from the table would incur the wrath of the RSM*, which is a fate too horrible to describe here.

I´d say so, yes. As a Bavarian, I´d call that limit on beer an inhumane oppression. Are we even talking of pints here? Or 300 and something milliliters per can?
