Dowsing it work for me!!

...how can a test be untaken with out travel?
We'll come to you, Bob. Depending on where in the country you're located, I'm pretty sure that I can arrange for someone to go to where you are and help you to conduct a test. Heck, if you're within four hours drive of Canberra, I'll do it myself, at my own expense.

Ok, drive fast. Come to my place for a demo? if you want too. Would guess at about 1500 k. ( North of Nambour.)

honest - marked by truth

It is the true reason.

I don't get it. If they know they're going to fail and therefore not submitting to tests, but still claim they can dowse, they are knowingly lying.

Surely that depends on the rationalization for failing the test? It could be that it's evidence that sceptics are dirty cheats. It could be that it's evidence for dowsing not working under controlled conditions rather than not working in general.

... or it could be evidence that dowsing doesn't work.

For all their boasting of successes, none have yet to produce conclusive evidence for a water well or an oil well being drilled based on a dowser's exact advice (location, depth, fluid quality/quantity/make up).

They may believe in their heart that they can dowse, but here is the important part:

They think it is the test that are wrong, not themselves.

Well now, there are those who are opposed to dowsing for different reasons, for instance, some believe that
Christian activities such as conversion and prayer hinder dowsing powers. Conversion to Christ may mean loss of the dowsing ability altogether. Prayer may hinder or prevent the dowsing process. For example, Hester and Koch both refer to cases where conversion and/ or prayer have had these effects.[52]
([SIZE=-1]"Copyright 1994 by the Christian Research Institute") Mods, feel free to delete content if I am not supposed to quote this. Their disclaimer is confusing.

Just too many wonderful lines to be able to do it justice by quoting, but I can't resist:
Hoffman-La Roche, the huge multinational pharmaceutical company headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, has been employing dowsers on the company's payroll since 1944. The dowsers are used in seeking water for the company's operations. When interviewed as to the unscientific nature of dowsing, a company spokesperson replied as follows: "Roche uses methods that are profitable, whether they are scientific or not. The dowsing method pays...."[2]
But so do prostitution and selling crack cocaine -- in the short run. The question remains: should dowsing be used if it is really a method of occultic divination? Before I document that it is and therefore should be avoided, we need to understand the influence, variety of phenomena, and wide-ranging uses of modern dowsing.

Great link - I love that sort of stuff.

The fact that dowsing works is clearly its major defense.

Now if the author had examined that little assumption they could have saved themselves a whole lot of waffle. As we see time and time again, many people like to talk about how something might work and its implications before they have actually determined whether the phenomena exists or not.

ETA: Oddly, scientific failures are mentioned but only in passing.

The odder thing is that I was searching Google for "ex dowser", found absolutely no hits, then "former dowser", and found this article, the only hit on "former dowser".

My advice to dowsers, be the first to be an "ex dowser" and make a fortune writing about it.

So... without equivocating, are you going to front up for a fairly run, objective test and have your dowsing ability tested - yes or no?

Diamond Creek to here? if you come lionking I can guarantee some fun.
Is this another threat? Be a bit more explicit please. Do you want my address?

And remember everyone, repressed homosexual urges are not things to be ashamed of.
