This is what the article on a "business" website you and joobz cited says:
‘‘Luke made a mistake’’ in inventing the census that took Jesus [of Nazareth] to Bethlehem, according to Fr Murphy O’Connor. ‘‘The census was nonsense. The census we’re told was for the Roman Empire. This wasn’t part of the Roman Empire, this was an independent Jewish kingdom. But Luke had to try and find a motive why a heavily pregnant woman would travel the length of the country.
How do we know the "nonsense" wording was not the author of the article.
GOOD GOD, MAN! GIVE IT UP! It's right there! The priest said it!
Notice the quotation marking is not complete.
Okay, the author left out a quotation mark. What? Do you think he deliberately left it out for the express purpose of falsifying the priest's testimony? Then, when challenged, he says, "Hey, look, there's a quote missing!" and everyone goes "Oh, well that's all right then."
And this statement of the "census is nonsense" by the priest is nowhere else on the web other than on that business website and a Randi post.
So? It's an article owned by a business website, then. Do you seriously believe that both joobz and Cleon are trying to deceive you? And that they created the business site for that sole purpose?
Also the "in inventing the census" wording is not in quotes.
So? That's not the part we're discussing. It's irrelevant. Straw man.
My source from the book "Examine the Evidence" says Ramsay said there was a Roman census every 14 years beginning with Caesar Augustus.
Congratulations. Who cares?
I still have seen no credible evidence other than opinion that there was no census in the Roman occupied territory of Palestine with the Roman puppet Herod at the helm.
Maybe not, but that's not what we're discussing.
