Having achieved a flag that looked like it was rippling (and waving) in a terrestrial breeze, the makers were promptly accused of fakery.

I would disagree with that completely. If you carefully watch how the lunar flag "waves" it's quite clear how it moves is actually nothing like how a flag waves in the wind on the Earth. The motions are totally different. It only looks somewhat similar on a quick, superficial viewing.

What I don't get about it is the sheer size of the conspiracy. The number of people involved easily exceeds those who would have had to ignore lots of new extra wiring in the WTC.

It is not not usually doubted that a rocket with people on board was started, either.

We have artefacts from the moon, documentation, knowledge about the technical used back then, some guy build a replica of the apollo guidance computer in his basement, even!

So, in fact, the entire conspiracy was *so good* that instead of faking the moon landing they could have just gone and flown to the moon anyway.

The most puzzling part of this is that you never hear about anyone questioning any of the other moon landings... just the first one. Either question all of them, or, um, not really a conspiracy, is it.

I have seen supposed anomolies in shots of the Lunar Rover being used to prove the conspiracy, so some of the more persistent deniers go further.

What have the British got to do with any of this?

If they launched the one and only pod to leave the moon, who the heck was manning the camera? And don't say a tripod because the camera tilted up to track the pod!

It may have been a situation similar to the one that this guy found himself in - this guy WHO IS MOST DEFINITELY NSFW IF YOU HAVE LOUDSPEAKERS and possibly not even then.

My understanding is that the flag was made of nylon and it got really crumpled in transit. In addition, the astronauts reportedly did not extend the telescoping rod fully because they thought the flag looked better that way.

Minor nitpick. On Apollo 11 the rod jammed so that they couldn't extend it all of the way out. This lead to the flag appearing to be curved or "Fluttering" which the other Astronauts liked so much they deliberately failed to extend the rod to its full out position on their missions.

It is also called a video camera mounted in the LEM.

Actually it was a TV Camera and it was the LM.

For the CMR getting out of the LM on 11, 12, 14, and 15. 16 and 17 the TV Camera was pre-mounted on the LRV. For the pre-16 missions, including 15, once the LMP arrived on the surface, the camera was moved to a tripod, and on 15 once the LRV was unpacked it was then transfered to the LRV. Of course we all know that Alan Bean accidently pointed 12's at the sun during this transistion from LM to tripod resulting in the loss of the TV Camera and subsequent cameras being fitted with an iris that closes if they encountered too much light.

There was also the DAC which was a film camera and for the pre-rover missions was mounted in the LMP's window, for the Rover Missions it was mounted on the LRV, though it was removed to film the Rover GP footage.

Thus the answer really depends on what the footage was to who was the cameraman. For all of the eariler footage the answer was no-one, for TV footage from after the TV camera was placed on the LRV and all of 16 and 17, the answer would be Ed Fendel, who operated it remotely from Mission Control in Houston.
