Whoopi Goldberg: "Who shot the footage?!"

I understand the irresistible temptation to catch an error before a post is edited. However, you did say:

Quad4_72

It is also called a video camera mounted in the LEM.

You are just all sorts of wrong today Cicero. I did not say that, this guy did:

Who shot the footage? Was she joking? Its called a tripod. 35% of British are now officially morons.

Check post #2. Perhaps you should take a break from the forum for a couple hours.

I used to work with a YEC who believed that "the firmament" was actually a sort of crystal sphere around the Earth, and that it once held back the waters that poured down as the Flood when the floodgates in the firmament were opened. Since then, he says, any space craft that leaves Earth orbit just happens to go through the open floodgates rather than hitting the firmament.

What have the British got to do with any of this?

That's what I was wondering. After all, Whoopi isn't British. Maybe she's got some relatives who are. I'd refer to them as the Goldberg variations.

Sorry. I'm not proud of that.

They brought back Moon rocks that scientists can and have verified and I'm sure some of those were shared (or loaned to) with the Russians among others who would have no reason to lie about their findings. I don't see how this CT is any less easy to verify than all the other absurd CTs.

Which I see Alt+F4 already noted:

Well Luna 16 didn't launch till over a year after Apollo 11, so the Russians didn't have their own samples till then, though Luna 15 went off three days before Apollo 11 and orbited, but failed to land.

Seriously- If I handed you a lunar basalt or anorthosite sample , could you tell them from terrestrial examples? I doubt it. Kitten could, given access to the right lab, which she has. I maybe still could, though it's been a while. I bet you couldn't and you ain't the most unedumacated person in known space. All the information about either Soviet or US space programs was controlled in its release. It's not something you can test for yourself. You can read the reports, but given the basic premise of the hoax theorists, what would that prove? Even the LRO photos released this week might be photoshopped for all we can prove to the contrary.
Truth is, a lot of folk really never gave a toss about the Apollo program, far less Luna / Lunokhod. This includes many folk who are actually pretty smart. They just are not interested in stuff like this. When they see apparently serious , seemingly reasonable criticism of what they saw as a waste of public money, they are very likely to buy into such a CT as the Moon Hoax without much resistance.
ETA- By comparison, a lot about (eg) 9/11 can be checked by anyone interested- and most folk are interested. Few are in doubt for example that the WTC existed but doesn't now.

At one point in the linked video, one of the perps (none of whom I recognised except Goldberg), says something along the lines of "x percent of people in Britain don't believe..." before being interrupted. It's the sort of comment we are more used to hearing about Americans, which maybe tells us we are sinking fast or that they get the same spurious statistics we do.

And there is no gravity on the lunar surface?
About 1/6th of what there was in the NASA sweatshop that produced Old Glory.
Hey- I wonder if the line about the "rocket's red glare" went through Aldrin and Armstrong's minds as they set it up?

I did err on the attribution. What are the other sorts of wrong?

The most puzzling part of this is that you never hear about anyone questioning any of the other moon landings... just the first one. Either question all of them, or, um, not really a conspiracy, is it.

With a proper spectrometer, yes.

How Do We Know That It’s a Rock From the Moon?

I happen to be a meteorite enthusiast and actually own an itty bitty Moon rock that fell as a meteorite. (It's illegal to own any Moon rocks NASA has from the Moon.)

I think it is because most of the people stupid enough to think that Apollo 11 was faked have no idea that Apollo 12-17 existed.

Karen Johnson's nickname is "Whoopie," and I've heard that's because she's known to pass hot air frequently.

:p

I read an interview with Charles K. Johnson, head of the Flat Earth Society (or as he insisted it be called, the Flat Earth Research Society), published in 1995: the actual interview took place as TV news was covering the "low-speed chase" of O. J. Simpson. Johnson maintained that "the government" was after Simpson because he was about to go public with The Truth: that the entire space program had been faked. And how did Simpson know this? Because he had starred in Capricorn One.

Your initial post before edit, then your quotes that suggest that the camera was never moved from the LM, and then you saying that I said something that was actually said by another forum member.

I’ve long had the impression that – shall we say – very many less-sophisticated people in the Third World, spontaneously came to the opinion, in the wake of the moon landing in 1969, that it was a fake perpetrated by the Americans; and that that notion has been firmly held in those quarters “from that day to this”. Can be seen as wishful thinking, fuelled by resentful envy of the USA – feel that I can understand that attitude, without applauding it.

I remember reading, long ago, a book chronicling the doings of a game-conservation venture in what was then Rhodesia. This undertaking took place shortly after the 1969 lunar event. If I remember rightly, virtually all the white members of the team were enthusiastic about the moon landing. All the black ones – there to do the “grunt work” – were convinced that it had been faked, and that common sense dictated that of course it was impossible for people to fly to the moon. It was all relatively good-humoured, along the lines of, respectively, “these kaffirs really are a hoot”; and “these whiteys really are gullible”.

What the British have to do with it?
They were probably referring to a survey done by Engineering and Technology magazine, where one of the outcomes was that about 25% of the British believe that we never landed on the moon http://edition.cnn.com/2009/TECH/space/07/17/moon.landing.hoax/index.html

Link to magazine
Further revelations concerning the British public’s perception of the historic event include 11 per cent who believe the Moon-landing occurred during the 1980s and 1 per cent who believe the first man on the Moon was Buzz Lightyear.
To irrationality and beyond.
