Are you saying the the statement "The FBI assumed crime-scene jurisdiction at the Pentagon terrorist attack site Sept. 21 from the Arlington County (Va.) Fire Department, officials said." means that they started their actual investigation on Sept 21 and had done nothing since Sept. 11th when the attacks happened?

I am stating that the FBI assumed jurisdiction and started the crime scene investiagtion on that date. It does not mean they did nothing up untill that point, just that they had other things going on like the rescue and recovery operation.

Rescue and recovery is not the purview of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. That's not to say that some agents didn't assist of their own accord - but as an organization the FBI is charged with the investigation, apprehension, and prosecution of crimes.

Exceptions were made to the rules on 9/11 because they had to be. A lot of people found themselves doing things they wouldn't normally be doing - because nothing on this scale had ever happened before.

Read it again, and pay closer attention to the grammar.

I never said that the FBI was NOT involved in R&R. Rescue and Recovery is NORMALLY not the purview of the FBI. But as I stated, the scale of 9/11 meant they needed every warm body and pair of eyes they could get their hands on.

So you mean to tell me that the term "assuming jurisdiction" from another entity means that they did no investigating at the scene at all until that happened on that date?

No, he's seeing what I'm seeing. You are inferring meaning from that phrase that just isn't conveyed.

It doesn't SPECIFICALLY state what FBI agents were doing prior to assuming actual jurisdiction, only that there were rescue and recovery operations going on.

You can bet that those agents were already engaged in their jobs of collecting evidence from the minute their hit boots hit the ground.
