Should Janet Napolitino step down ?

Gov. Ed Rendell figured Napolitano would be the perfect DHSS because she has no life.

"Napolitano is perfect for that job. Because for that job, you have to have no life. Janet has no family. Perfect. She can devote, literally, 19-20 hours a day to it."

Unfortunately, Napolitano is also lacking in basic knowledge of 9/11, Southern boarder security enforcement, and overall common sense.

Neither had any of the morons serving or nominated to the post during the past interregnum.

No one who served in that capacity has the common sense that I would expect of a small-town police chief.

Look at the caliber of person who put her predecessors in palce.

Anybody is an improvem,ent.

Burgess, in going into a snit at the suggestion that domestic terrorists miught be trying to recuit our veterans, has shown himself to be too stupid to serve in any policy-making position, and should just leave public life now before he does any further harm.

It happens. They even recruit actiuve duty soldiers for domestic terrorism.

Bush 43 didn't give two turds about Southern boarder security. Napolitano is no better than Chertoff, and is dead set on proving she is even worse than Chertoff.

Who needs Burgess, the Johnny-come-lately critic of Napolitano, when Napolitano's shortcomings as a governor have long been exposed?

Care to bring some evidence of that? We can, for instance, see that Burgess is as sharp as a bowling ball, and my examplle of how wrong the idiot is about the report supports that.

Now, you have evidence of lack of skills or integrity on Napolitano's part? Bring it.

Given your track record so far, your just saying something is so does not impress me as a presentation of an argument.

If this is all news to you don't blame me. Integrity is not a word used in conjunction with politicians. Skills? Her lack of ability to speak extemporaneously is painfully obvious. Boarder enforcement record? See below.

"After opposing initiatives that would ensure a legal work force, Napolitano suggested we “institute tamper-proof immigration documents to quell the fraudulent ID markets.” But when Congress passed the REAL ID Act -- creating a uniform standard for identification cards to help with the detection of fraudulent documents -- Napolitano refused to allow Arizona to comply with the law."

"In a 2007 press conference, Napolitano criticized worksite enforcement efforts, calling them “unfair.” But when given the opportunity to provide employers with the tools they need to secure a legal workforce, she opposed mandating the program. It wasn’t until Arizona voters passed a ballot initiative requiring employers to use the program that Napolitano signed the measure into law."

"The border fence is another issue on which Napolitano talks tough but presents a weak record. In the same speech before the Press Club, she opposed the border fence, our most practical line of defense, flippantly saying, “how me a 50-foot wall, and I’ll show you a 51-foot ladder.” It’s a great soundbite, but the fact is that the fence does make it much harder for illegal immigrants to enter the country.

Opposing the fence because some illegal immigrants may find a way around it is like telling a family not to lock their door at night because burglars can always break in through a window.

According to the Border Patrol, illegal crossings in Yuma, Ariz., and Santa Teresa, N. M., have decreased by over 70 percent as result of the fence. And in San Diego, the Border Patrol reports a 95 percent decrease in illegal immigrant apprehensions."

Having read through the thread I'm still trying to figure out what Janet did, or is accused of doing, that is resignation worthy.

I doubt that the rightwingers will be able to articulate it accurately no matter how long you wait. Seems they got upset that she released a report (initiated in the last administration) to the effect that Nazi want to recruit our veterans to the white power cause and they need to be watched.

Well, DUH! That's her job.

("....uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against al enemiesforeign and domestic" I guess they don't quite get what the "domestic" part means.)

DHS just released a report, which was commissioned and researched under BushCo, that pointed out that domestic right wing extremist groups are recruiting from the ranks of former US military. That's what all the fuss is about.

Cicero is talking chiefly about her record in illegal immigration and border enforcement as Governor of Arizona.

My sentiments exactly. I saw hgc's answer which was as far as I could see accurate.

What amazes me and what scares me a bit is that such a complete non-issue can be created out of nothing by the hyper partisan media.

It scares me because it suggests once again that the hyper partisan Republican media sycophants have no intention of discussing real issues. Instead the plan is to create a flurry of this non-sense to deflect attention from the horrible fiscal irresponsibility and deeply embedded cronyism of the Republican Party as it exists today. Apparently it is easier to mount mindless, childish attacks on the opposition party than to begin to examine the role that eight years of Republican governance played in creating the economic mess that the US finds itself in today.

Cicero to his credit has attempted to discuss real issues here. It would be nice if he did it in a thread that had a little bit more to do with immigration issues and it would have been even nicer if he could have seen his way to acknowledge the absurd nature of the particular attacks on Napolitano that this thread was about.

Hmm...You cite an article from a sociopath rag and expect us to buy your complaints about Napolitano?

I have not heard any such criticisms from a non-sociopath news outlet. You got any?

"Us?" Whom do you speak for other than yourself? Not surprising you would object to the messenger and not acknowledge that the message is factual. The quotes are from Napolitano and are in the public record. Her veto record as governor is in the public record.

Rep. Lamar Smith, the author of the article, is the former chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration, Border Security and Claims. So now he is another of your sociopaths just like Arpaio? How did you conclude that Smith also has no conscience?

Did you just realize that you share Napolitano's concept of boarder enforcement? Is that why your knickers are in a twist when you are confronted with Napolitano's actual record?

BTW: Have you given up using dailykos, media matters, huffpo, etc, as your go to authorities since they are left wing moonbats and must therefore be dismissed out of hand?

My brief with Napolitano is not the OP's, but her complete lack of qualifications for DHSS should have disqualified her from consideration by Obama for the position. Napolitano should confess to the POTUS that she is in over her head, and for the good of the country, resign.

Well excuse me for not knowing everything and attempting to figure it out.

Are you saying there are no sociopaths in congress?

I know there are fewer now since trhe last election and the redistricting in Texas that left the Bug Man with no seat, but, come on. There are still a hundred or so neoclown Republicans left.

Did you just realize that you share Napolitano's concept of boarder enforcement?

Care to quote the stratement I may that brought you to that conclusion? I don't recall making such a statement.
