? America didn't want what happened to 10's of millions of people in China and the Soviet Union to happen in America.

We were fighting a war to prevent the spread of communism. Perhaps our actions were ill advised and we abused our power and made mistakes and commited crimes. I'll concede to those, but these are NOT analogs of Communist oppression, genocide and imprisonment of political prisoners. We didn't strip the freedom of our own people nor did we strip the freedom of the South Vietnamese or South Koreans.

I thought we had semi cleared some of that up. You can't seem to seperate yourself from labels or one track of thought. I understand you are responding to Randfans use of "Communism" (and it's also IMO sort of a misuse, but China/Soviets were both communist), but in this context, communism is not what you are making it to be.

I think it unfair to lay it all at the feet of "in the name of capitalism". It was also in the name of not having the hell of communism and I think a reasonable argument can be made that it was the lesser of two evils. Even if it was simply perceived that way, truth is we will never know what would have happend if we hadn't fought a war. Clearly Vietnam didn't unfold the same way China and the Soviet Union did but clearly our efforts to stop the march of Communism had some success.
