No serious politician, much less a first term President, will commit political suicide by legalising such a dangerous, addictive gateway drug.

Some problems:

1) You didn't include the Planet X option, which automatically invalidates any and all conclusions you might wish to draw from this poll.

2) In most states, if a blood test reveals that you have 0.08% alcohol in your blood, you are legally intoxicated. Could you please tell me what the level of THC in one's bloodstream should be for one to be considered legally intoxicated?

I'm pretty sure that I remember some countries that actually do act on a drivers THC-level ... try to find additional sources ...

Care to back up your claims regarding it's danger?

Also danger isn't really the issue. The issue is peoples rights to control their own bodies. Of course "conservatives" are often the first to want to control other peoples bodies (and lives!).

It's a scientific researched fact that people under influence of THC have slow reaction times and are easily distracted.

Look, smoke damages lung tissue no matter what kind.

It has been conclusively shown that people who start out innocently smoking a joint may become heroin junkies.

People who buy illegal drugs aren't trustworthy, and addicts are a drain on society.

I think simple possession should stop being a felony, simply because it's ridiculous that being drunk as a skunk is only illegal if you're driving, but being stoned means federal charges.

Actually, it is illegal to be drunk in public. This includes bars. A bar is public. So if you get plastered in a bar, you are breaking the law. The only place you can be wasted legally is in your own home.

So what? Any evidence that the affects of THC are worse than say, booze?

Look, smoke damages lung tissue no matter what kind.

So do ciggarettes, are you for making them illegal? And for that matter, use a freaking vaporizer. I can't believe people seriously still think your choices are limited to joints or bongs.

It has been conclusively shown that people who start out innocently smoking a joint may become heroin junkies.

Evidence? I've been using pot for 6 years now and I have yet to become a heroin junkie.

People who buy illegal drugs aren't trustworthy

Evidence?

and addicts are a drain on society.

Granted, just like welfare abusers, porno users, and alcoholics. The only logical conclusion here is to ban everything to ensure that no one ever misuses them.

I think it's possible to figure it out with a blood test.

In any case, I think it would be a huge advancement to legalize the substance but make it illegal to drive (and whatever other dangerous activities have alcohal restrictions) with any amount of THC in your system.

Ehm, you're not allowed to drive "boozed", either. So why do you think that "easy distraction" and "slow reaction times" aren't a problem when it comes to THC? :boggled::confused:

Cigarettes - what do you propose to do with them?

It has been conclusively shown that people who start out innocently smoking a joint may become heroin junkies.

I bet most heroin users smoked a cigarette and drank beer or spirits before using heroin. I presume they did loads of things before using heroin - so what? What you need to prove with evidence is that smoking joints led them to heroin, not make an assumption

People who buy illegal drugs aren't trustworthy, and addicts are a drain on society.

People who buy certain types of drugs aren't trustworthy, and some addicts are a drain on society is a more correct statement imo.

Should you, again ,ban booze and cigarettes as they also have addicts, what about prescription drugs? Again addicts from these...

Users of E, Dope and others drugs are far far away from your original statement and stereotypical view.

That may all be so, but I have yet to see anyone arguing in favor of marijuana's legalization propose a maximum allowable blood THC level.

It has been conclusively shown that people who start out being breast-fed may become heroin junkies.

Post hoc, ergo propter hoc.

It should be legalized. Why not make money on it instead of spending money on the impossible mission of getting rid of it?

Err...I don't recall saying that? I'm merely questioning why are we singling out poor ole THC if there are other substances just as bad or worse. ;)

No, it hasn't been conclusively shown at all. It's still hotly contested.
In many cases, the "gateway sequence" appears to be more socially
motivated than pharmacological (ie. participation in a drug subculture and
exposure to users of harder substances). Legalising the stuff will surely
short circuit that aspect of the gateway sequence.

If anything, the habit of mixing hashish with tobacco here has caused more
persons to become dependent on nicotine than would perhaps otherwise
have been the case.

Hmmm not the best argument to support the legalisation of dope, by that reasoning we might as well legalise burglary, murder, robbery et al and the tax the proceeds from these deeds ;)

I agree the "war" has been lost and it's time for an adult debate about drugs and their respective effects on individuals and society, alas we'll not see that in the UK and I presume the US for many a year.

The problem is the word "drugs" conjures an image, to the majority of voters*, of a junkie in a back alley shooting up heroin they have bought using money stolen from a street mugging of an old lady. Until that perception changes the debate will never take place.

*Ironically the people who are more likely to take recreational drugs are the most likely not to vote - well in the UK anyway

Jeez. I cannot believe how many people can't detect a trollpost when they see one. Just shows nobody remembers the old days of this forum.

I was the smokingest smoker that e'er smoked a smoke!

*packs one up and giggles*

O my lungs! The lunghammer once again!

Man you got me good with the last one! I was about to go off on you!

For the record I smoke a lot of pot. I'm also very successful and I don't do heroin either ;)
