Part of the problem (for me - I'm cauc.) is that although it is called Black History month, even in schools all it really is is a documentary or two about MLK and/or the Freedom riders and related, possibly one or two fictionalized things about black sports groups/kids that did something well and some minio-biography activities about the black guy who invented the traffic light and G.W.Carver. No artists, not even the Highwaymen, nothing about the Negro Leagues, no Oscar Micheaux, Lena Horne, Freddie Washington, Nicholas Bros.,
Gordon Parks, no Harlem Globetrotters, etc. No debates: Amos and Andy: Was the NAACP right or wrong on it? No discussions of the Pullmen porters and their influence on Southern blacks deserting the South for the Midwest - or the papers smuggled in from Chicago + that helped it along. And that barely touches it and only includes the US part of Black History. I rant somewhere on this every year*. This is this years place and time.
*And don't get me started on leaving out the Deacons...
