Michael Connell died in a plane crash last night...

Why is it absurd to speculate that one of the most ruthless political fixers of our time should seek to neutralize someone who could get him put behind bars (or worse)?

It creates an uncomfortable situation in the debunker's mind. If someone like Rove is capable of such a ruthless crime, what else might he be capable of?

Speculation is fine. But let's not pretend there aren't people in the investigation going over it with a finer-toothed comb than usual HOPING to find that piece of evidence simply BECAUSE of who the person is.

To think he's capable of it depends on how evil person you want to imagine Karl Rove is, but when we start to think he's somehow able to manipulate an investigation at this point of the administration's tenure is when we have to start with the impossibly-large vast all-wings NWO nonsense.

Conspiring to invade a sovereign nation in order to bring about regime change, on the basis of highly dubious intelligence suggesting that said nation possessed weapons of mass destruction, springs to mind as one possibility. How does your world-view account for the fact that I don't feel uncomfortable about considering that?

It's charming to read such a naive and elementary understanding of the justice system in this country.

Well said. So you agree then that such a person as Rove would be capable of bumping off someone who could have provided devastating testimony of his criminal activity?

Ok, so let's pretend that there are Rove-hating supersleuths that have somehow gained access to the crash site and evidence.

Let's pretend not every member of the NTSB is under Rove's thumb, and maybe some of them are just like the public at large so it would make sense a few have a preconceived perception of Rove as Darth Maul.

Paranoid sure, but let's just pretend.

I believe that hypothetically it's possible that a person might reach Rove's position with a set of morals that would permit him to do that, and that such a person might actually do so. I know next to nothing about Rove personally, and have no wish to accuse him of murder based on speculation alone.

Do you believe that "such a person as Rove would be capable of bumping off someone who could have provided devastating testimony of his criminal activity"? If so, can I ascribe that belief to you next time the why-hasn't-the-government-eliminated-the-9/11-truthers argument rears its ugly head on the relevant forum? Or is that yet another claim you'd like to avoid making?

Dave

OK, has Rove been connected to anything but political wrangling and legal slight of hand? Has he been caught doing anything remotely close to ordering a hit on an underling that may or may not have vial information (this is a key point, we don't actually know what Connell could say or prove).

We're talking about a guy who spends every waking hour with an army of politicians and lawyers. He pimps the media for a living. And, he is apparently very good at it.

Rove could simply have this guy discredited or the case buried under decades of paper work. Why bother with something so messy as a hit? That leaves forensic evidence that several of our world class investigative agencies would pick up on.

and, again I would really like to see the actual proof of foul play.

It brings to mind the classic scene in Head Office where CEO Eddie Albert (Pete Helmes) wants to deal with potential whistleblower Judge Reinhold (Jack Issel):

Pete Helmes: In the old days, I'd have had that son of a bitch in cement and thrown into the river faster than you can say Henry Ford!
Scott Dantley: Unfortunately, these are the post-Watergate 1980s.
Pete Helmes: Well, then shoot him!
Scott Dantley: Killing Jack Issel isn't a wise idea, sir.
Pete Helmes: I'm one of the most powerful men in this world, and if I can't have someone shot, then what the hell does it mean to have power anymore?

:dl:

Yes, I believe hypothetically, that such a person is capable, as you do.

I don't see the analogy you're making next, however, since I don't see "truthers" as being as dangerous to Rove as someone like Connell. Apparently, Connell had much more damaging testimony and direct knowledge of Rove's activities.

"The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating the crash but had no new information over the weekend."

The crash is being investigated so all speculation can be put on hold until after it's complete. Of course, a Google search for "Connell air crash" has only 4 out of its first 50 entries that aren't just rampant speculation or dark innuendo.

Well, considering every link Hulk, JJ, and RedIbis have posted thus far have been to bloggers you can't be especially surprised by that.

I have to temporarily interrupt this thread with the breaking news that the New York Yankees have just signed Mark Texiera.

$180 million. If they don't win the Series next year I'd be very careful about getting on an airplane if I was Hank Steinbrenner.

Well, considering every link Hulk, JJ, and RedIbis have posted thus far have been to bloggers you can't be especially surprised by that.

One of those bloggers already has 275 comments. Among those was an allegation that William Casey was assassinated just as he was about to blow the lid off everything the CIA had ever done wrong.

That's the scary, confused world of the paranoid. Nobody ever makes back-up tapes of anything so all you have to do (as Karl Rove) is rig up Connell's plane to crash and all investigations are stymied.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Connell actually supposed to be one of "them"? Wasn't he the guy who allegedly rigged up all the alternate communications between the White House and outside "agents"? When did he suddenly become a victim? Was it after the subpoena? Is everyone subpoenaed now one of "us"? And Karl Rove is powerful enough to hire an assassin to kill Connell but too weak to prevent the issuance of a subpoena? What kind of NWO villain is he?

I have a hard time keeping score with the endless spew of conspiracies.

Hank's an idiot. He's got his dad's loud mouth, but none of the business sense. Hal holds all the real power.

and what do the Yankees want with yet another DH? Is Giambi somehow going to get Liddle'd?
