What the hell happened to the Republican party?

I was just going to comment on this point.

Since kurious_kathy is so fond of using such loose thinking as guilt-by-association and "what DON'T we know about him" kind of argumentation, I would like to point out that her initials are...

KK - which is one short of KKK.

Coincidence? I think not! ;)

ETA: Seriously, I have no real reason to think kathy is a member of the KKK - I'm just trying to make a point by being snarky.

You are not very nice for making this statement, I loath what the KKK is and hate all racial prejudice. I unfortunately do have concerns of Obama may have racial prejudices himself though, and that's after finding out who he had been following as his spirutal leader for over 20 years.

And .. there's no evidence of this. And people who have looked into it haven't seen any...
There is too evidence, people just don't make those things up that Obama did. It's all known and some are just chosing to ignore what's right in front of them. What is wrong with this picture? Oh yah I forgot this is a skeptic forum.

Yeah, I'm glad to know Washington's most noteworthy accomplishment was 'Christian.'
Actually what is noteworthy about Washington is how God protected him in battle so he could be President. And even though I'm sure he had his sins as all men have sinned, God had and plan and a purpose in using good ole George. I'm just glad he repented later in life and set his slaves free.

And on that note if Obama wins this election it is only because God allows it, but it does not mean Obama is a man who knows or serves God. It only shows he has a plan and a purpose and the stage is being set for judgement to come upon this earth. All I can say I we all need Jesus to save us, He is God!

No, it would mean that more people voted for him in enough states to send at least 270 electoral college votes his way. Every now and then, people have to take credit (or responsibility) for their own actions. Fobbing everything off on god is a lazy excuse for ineffectiveness.

I'm beginning to think that God is another term for a collective being. Or maybe God just is playing Sims with a few people. One of the two.

Back to the OP and off kk's idiotic rantings, there is a change in the Republican party that is particularly noticeable this year. There have been 4-5 Republicans in the last few days who have been accusing Dems of being anti-American. It seems to me that this is a significant erosion in our political process. Now, it seems it is not enought to disagree with the Dems, it is necessary to demonize them.

This is a sad turn of events that it is difficult for me to see how the Republicans can improve.

Actually with the contacts Obama has, I think he could really be key in the destruction of the USA

I think the same about McCain. I mean, he spent years as a guest of the Vietnamese military at a time when they were openly fighting the US! You can't get worse associations than that, surely? It may be rubbish, but I don't know that for sure. You never know what he's thinking, can you prove he's innocent?

McCain could bring the downfall of the US by welcoming in the new Vietnamese overlords!

Plus, I hear he's met several people who know Muslims. What more do you need to know?

It's possible! That's all I'm saying! Can we really take the chance?

...snip...
(My bold.)

I think there is every indication of this man being a undercover Muslim and I'm sorry but that's not right for the US to put a Mulim into the presidents office. Wouldn't that just destroy us in ways we can't even fathom!

And I have said I have big concerns that he could be an undercover Muslim, he hangs out with lots of them but I can't even pronounce their names.

It's genuinely a shame you don't hate religious prejudice, too.

And as far as the reality of homosexual behavoir, "it does too hurt people!"
...snip...

... or sexual orientation prejudice.

Poor Jesus. His campaign of love keeps turning into a campaign of hate.

My problem with Obama is that for all his smiles and charisma, he is obviously merely a charming charlatan who gets by using the charlatan's usual method of telling people what they want to hear. Of course, that hardly means he's a "terorrist" or a "secret Muslim" or "not native born" or, for that matter, much different than most other politicians. It doesn't even mean that, if elected, he will do a bad job. I think he will -- due to inexperience -- but, perhaps he'll surprise us.

He reminds me in many ways of Clinton: also a man with, at the time of his election, not too much achievement for the highest post in the land, but charming and charismatic and optimistic about "change". Still, Clinton turned out to be a very good president -- mostly by learning quickly, being intelligent, acting as a centrist, and deeply disappointing the "base" of 1960s rejects who were looking for a "radical" president who will finally "show the evil Republicans" what's what.

If elected, it's possible Obama will do the same. I think that this is the main reason many people who support Obama are not concerned with his undeniable connections to radicals. They think, perhaps correctly, that Obama as president will deeply disappoint those radicals who think he's going to start some sort of socialist revolution.

Is there a shred of factual evidence to support this paranoid fantasy, or are you just engaging in divination by reaching into the back of your pants?

I have a copy of The Primer that was published in 1777 that was used in our first schools and you can get a copy from Wallbuilders.com and see it for yourself if you are interested? Do you really believe the government wasn't in charge of that? The problem now is educators have changed history books to try to cover up the truth of our American heritage. I would suggest you check out Dave Bartons Ministry for more info.

No, the government wasn't in charge of that.

Also, Dave Barton? The guy who claims that the majority of the signers of the Declaration of Independence were clerymen? He's a liar. Only one was, John Witherspoon. Before you run around complaining about hhow there's a secular conspiracy to alter history, I suggest you look at the attempts to alter history by the people you cite.

I think that every one of the Israel hawks that participate in this forum favors McCain. Assuming that maximizing the military and civilian aid to Israel is one of the most important issues for you, McCain is your guy. He has significant tie-ins to neocons and he is the candidate most likely to maintain the status quo with regards to the US middle east policies.

So when somebody like Skeptic sees Obama as a charlatan is confirmation bias in play here? Maybe. But there is also truth to Skeptic's thought and for those of us who support Obama there is a certain amount of confirmation bias in play when we overlook his somewhat weak resume.

And in a mild defense of Skeptic (not that he needs my help) Skeptic didn't call Obama a simpleton as one of the other JREF Israel hawks did. My thought there was that the guy's confirmation bias had just left the planet and that any further discussion would have been pointless. If there is one thing that Obama is not, it is a simpleton.

I've often criticized Obama on having a short political career. I'd rather have a more thoroughly vetted political candidate, but "charlatan?" That requires some sort of evidentiary basis.

Really, I know of one person here that just makes up things about a so-called god to make them seem right, but they (you) are still very wrong, and you even break one of your so-called 10 commandments (the one about “You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor”). Or is that OK just to get your way and to play up to your immature idea of a so-called god, that old “the ends justify the means”.

Let’s just burn some witches too, what the hell.

Paul

I didn't take Skeptic to be using the word charlatan in the normal sense. I don't think he was accusing Obama of being a routine scammer.

I thought it was more along the lines of accusing Obama of using his political skills to hide his true nature. In those terms essentially every politician is a charlatan, it is just that Obama with his amazing extemporaneous speaking skills and his strong writing skills and his instinct for taking positions that resonate most strongly with people has the potential to hide more of what he is than the average politician. Whether he is or not is not knowable right now.

On one of Skeptic's principal issues, the Palestinian/Israeli conflict, I suspect that Obama has manufactured a position that is more hawkish than it really is. I hope that's true. I think the current approach to Israel by the US is bad for everybody involved including the Israelis, the Palestinians, the Jews, the middle east in general and the American tax payer. The only people that profit are some American military suppliers and some wacko Israeli settlers.

But I can also understand that Skeptic might be less enthused than I am about this since he sees Obama's political maneuvering as a way of getting elected without being completely truthful about some of his underlying ideas. Of course no politician has ever gotten elected by being completely truthful about his underlying views and they all can be seen as charlatans in some ways.

Dave Barton is a proven liar and historical revisionist. He hates everything this country was founded upon. You're being used by malevolent and evil men Kathy. Are familiar with the term "useful idiot"?

Oh, that's rich, saying it's "not nice" for someone to make a ridiculous statement about you, implying something shady and evil simply due to your name...

I say again, you do know that Obama's mom was white and he was partially raised by his white grandparents, don't you? You know, his white grandma that he's left his campaign to be with due to her serious health situation?
