Here's the Truth
greetings,
If anyone here is at all interested, here is the truth:
1. I don't care who criticizes who. Anyone can criticize Warren all they want -- but they should do so in a Christian manner. In other words, they should do so accurately, carefully, kindly, respectfully, and NOT by use of lies, misrepresentation, half-truths, out-of-context quotes, concealment of information, or other sorts of cult-like, mean-spirited, unChristian tactics.
2. Rick Warren is not my boss. I worked on staff at Saddleback as Creative Arts Director from 1998-2000. He has NOTHING to do with anything I say or write in print or online -- and hasn't since I left staff to continue my pursuit of full-time writing.
3. My issue is NOT with people criticizing Warren (see #1), my issue is with the WAY people are criticizing Warren and the many false accusations being made, which is against the Bible (i.e., that think we Christians are supposed to believe in and live by).
4. As for the video being pulled, much of what I have done, I have done to make a point -- i.e., these so-called online discernment ministries (ODMs) do NOT want to be held accountable for anything they say or do. They want to be as vicious, mean-spirited, and irresponsible with their words as they can be without anyone stopping them and saying, "Wait a minute! That is unture. Now, hold on there! That is not legal. Stop! You're clearly going against everything Jesus and the Bible stands for."
5. I DO NOT think people are evil if they don't like Rick Warren. I have many friends who find Rick Warren to not be their cup of tea. Moreover, I also do not agree with various aspects of Warren's platform myself, and have posted these disagreements online.
6. Ingrid Schuleter's radio program was a classic example of taking someone's words and perverting them to serve an agenda. The woman is poisonous to the body of Christ -- absolutely poisonous, in my humble opinion. She completely took my words out of context in order to accuse me of standing against biblical Christians and biblical Christianity. (That is absurd.) It was also implied by her that I reject the second coming of Jesus -- also false. Moreover, it was suggested by her that I condemn all people who hold certain views of the end times, which once more, is an untruth. My response to Schuleter can be found in my "Aug 26th, 2008 at 7:26 am" post at the PHOENIX PREACHER BLOG, in a thread opened up by that blog's owner, in an article titled "Slice of Shame."
7. Clearly, I have nothing to hide. I have a sterling reputation as a conservative Christian whose books, articles, and lectures repeatedly defend the orthodox, historic, Christian faith. My issue with these so-called defenders of the faith has always been the way they've perverted the noble calling of apologetics and turned it into an online hate-fest. My hope and prayer is that Christians will begin taking a far more Christ-like approach to sharing with others what they believe and why they believe it.
Thank you,
Richard Abanes
