homobigotry on mythbusters

Your discomfort is not necessarily homophobia. There has been at least one fMRI study which has shown that a negative "gut" reaction to male homosexual
behavior is natural among straight men. Your more conscious reaction that it is "your problem" is also a sign of the most healthy reaction.

Straight men are uncomfortable in the presence of male homosexuality. Well-adjusted straight men don't allow that discomfort to corrupt their view of other people. You seem fine, and I'm pretty sure I'm OK too.

The MythBusters folks seem pretty well-adjusted also... or else I think I might not be able to watch the show.

If you look at the wikipedia page on homophobia you will find this interesting little snippet:

"In 1996, a controlled study of 64 heterosexual men (half claimed to be homophobic by experience and self-reported orientation) at the University of Georgia found that men who were found to be homophobic (as measured by the Index of Homophobia)[26] were considerably more likely to experience more erectile responses when exposed to homoerotic images than non-homophobic men.[27]"

HAH! I KNEW IT! De-nial isn't just a river in Egypt after all....

Now if we could only get the Westboro Baptist Church morons to acknowledge that they are only hurting themselves and that it's ok to feel those feelings....

Maybe Tori felt uncomfortable because "it moved".

As for silly accents being xenophobic, I guess I better start taking offense to Groundskeeper Willie.

It seems every time they cook something, Adam Savage has to do this really lame stereotypical French accent.I like my science without xenophobia, thank you very much.

Because cooking is never associated with the French. So much for haute cuisine.

If they wanted to be xenophobic about the French he could do the accent every time he didn't bathe.

Tory's relaxation: watching the director's cut of bladerunner while getting a massage from a woman. An older, 'homely' looking woman.

Tory's stress: he enters the "torture" tent where he gets a massage from a man ("madd matt's man massage"). And no alternate movie watched.

So without even having to watch a movie he hates, just getting a massage from a man is not only stress, but is literally called torture.

This bigotry against homosexuals is intolerable, and should not be condoned in such a manner by either Mythbusters or the Discovery Channel.

Then Tory had to catch himself from saying "x is a bitch" in front of Kari. If it's wrong to say it in front of a woman, it's wrong to say it at all.

Misogyny, homophobia, and xenophobia, all in one episode.

Hey!!!! You forgot Grant didn't like the fish at his feet or that there were rats in the car!!!! Aaaand you forgot to mention that they were eating and killing cows to make those stakes they were blowing up!!!!

The show is clearly animal-phobic too!!!!!

:D

Oh and Kari is my dream girl. Smart and sexy!

Now this statement I will completely agree with. In fact, I will continue that and say that Kari is the hottest woman on television in our day.

I zink zee OP makes a veree guud point, ho ho ho.

Pleez doan heet mee -- I zurrender!!

Jeez that's one tightly wound OP. I guess some people just see offense everywhere.

I wouldn't particularly want a massage from a man, but I don't consider myself homophobic. As I live in Brighton, the 'gay captial of England' I would have to keep my eyes covered a lot of the time if I were.

I worked in a holistic healing centre for a while which also did massages - judging by clients preferences it seems that there are a lot of homophobic people out there - most people seemed to want massages from the opposite sex.
(In case you're wondering I just did the accounts there.)

I'm literally shocked Jamie is apparently straight. I mean... that moustache! :eye-poppi

Heh - if someone held a gun to my head and said, "Find the fag," I'd have picked Adam.

I guess I don't have gaydar. :boggled:

ETA: Jeezum Crow, on page 2 already of what is one of the stupidest threads in a long time. Must be a slow day in JREF land.

EEeeeeewwww...only thing worse than a guy giving me a full body massage would be a fat guy giving me a full body massage. No, let me amend that. Only thing worse than a fat guy giving me a fully body massage would be a fat guy giving me a full body oil massage. No...still not quite there...the only thing worse than a fat guy giving me a full body oil massage would be a fat guy giving me a full body Thai oil massage.

*shudders*

Crap, there goes the surprise. I hope I kept the receipt for all this Thai oil.

I hate being touched especially from a massage and especially by a male masseuse. Does that make me a homophobe?

Probably not, but it does make you a francophobe. "masseuse" is female, "masseur" is male. :D

I'd have picked Adam.

Of the two, he's probably the more likely. But I try never to think of Adam that way because then I'll get the mental image of that fake "Adam goatse" pic which went around the net a month or so ba...

...awwwww, DAMNIT!
