By the way, I was dead for over a minute. Nothing but blackness; actually, not even blackness. There was just ... nothing.

So, our anecdotes are not tied, one-to-one.

That's not so much an afterlife; more of an après-vie
 
Reincarnation suggests, if not properly something "supernatural", then at least something that's part of the universe that is not currently observed.

If it's a built-in Feature of the Universe(tm), then it would obviously suggest something funky, given that's clearly something that would almost certainly be placed there deliberately.

If it's an add-on, then it was placed by some highly advanced society or intelligence, which again suggests something funny going on.



However, the best path is to simply ask if the phenomenon exists before you try to explain it. And, like Nessie, Bigfoot, and UFOs, there is no solid proof for either reincarnation or an afterlife.


This is why we ask what your evidence is. Also, when we hear, "But that's not for you to know," we get highly suspicious. Either you're making it up, or have a high suspicion that your proof isn't really that solid.
 
What about a beforelife?

At some point you didn't exist for billions of years, and it didn't kill you the first time..

You really think there are people out there who wouldn't choose eternal life over having everybody end up the same way?

And by the way, how do you think people do NOT end up the same way after death? Do you also have experiential evidence to believe in a heaven and hell, or some other way that different people are assigned to different afterlives? What is this afterlife like? And do you have any real evidence or are we supposed to just take your word for it?

Because I really have to be convinced if I'm going to believe in an afterlife (people can't choose their beliefs consciously, or at least I can't). I can't just take you on your non-capitalized words that there is an afterlife any more than I can just take millions of theists on their word when they claim to have talked directly with God. You can't just say "I believe this because I have some sort of experience that I'm not going to elaborate on and you better just believe me because I said so."

I'm keyboarding this from the afterlife (on a Commodore 64... I think I've been gone a long time), and it's really kind of boring. Our only entertainment is god pacing and muttering on about how he's gonna scare the ◊◊◊◊ out of Dawkins and PZ when they get here.

I hope you realize that what you perceive in near death or out-of-body states depends largely on what you already believe about the afterlife or lack thereof. If one believed in a different type of afterlife, such as reincarnation, one would experience the fulfillment of those beliefs. An atheist who doesn't believe in the afterlife would not experience any visions, heavenly or otherwise.
