I don't agree there is any evidence of an afterlife, and biology suggests there isn't one, but I do agree there is no need for a god in order to have an afterlife.

And there are sufficient mysteries we've yet to understand about the Universe so keeping an afterlife option on the table is not completely unskeptical. It's a lot more in keeping with skepticism than god beliefs are. Though there is now sufficient evidence to suggest out of body experiences are generated within the brain, that evidence was out there for a while.
