Hey folks. Ive been searching the web left and right for info about the supposed white vans full of explosives on the gwb and the new jersey turnpike, and the van that "exploded" in manhattan. all i find is 9-11 denier sites...no factual sites. anyone got anything on this?

Er, didn't we just talk about this via PM the other day? You're not finding information on white vans full of explosives because there were none. I explained to you that the panel truck with the mural on King Street was another false alarm – one of many.

Remember who has the burden of proof.

we did. i was hoping someone had something from a newspaper mentioning that no explosives were found in any vans in nj. it appears that this myth is such bs that no one has even invested much time to debunk it. =)

years ago, i do recall seeing little articles in little nj papers providing this info. but, if its no longer up, what can ya do.

you probably wont, for the same reason you wont find a newspaper saying "new york wasnt nuked today" the stories seem to be so exagerrated or even completely made up by the truthers

About as reliable as the "White Van" the DC Sniper was reliably reported to be driving.

In other words; An understandable error.

Only now that its been debunked, it is a stinking, dastardly, pathetic lie repeated only by pathetic losers.

well, the thing is, the networks did report vans with explosives pulled over. one would think there would have been big fat articles claiming "no explosives in vans found. you can relax now".

Again, you're accepting a burden of proof that belongs on your opponent.

Here's information about the truck with the mural on King Street, and the confusion and fear that reigned after the collapses. Don't let your opponent get away with claiming that every event should have been clear to everyone in NYC during that chaos and that every rumor or suspicion was true.

''I'm concerned for the city,'' said Gary Foster, 42, a public relations official at a biotechnology firm at Rockefeller Center. ''I was already concerned with the potential of a severe economic downturn and was waiting for the impact to be felt by the city. I'm sure we will be going through a phase here where we will be inconvenienced. As for the long term, I'm just hoping that this city does not change radically.''

Perhaps not radically. But by any measure, this has knocked the wind out of a brash city in ways that became evident even before the first sun set on the rubble of the World Trade Center. One hour after the second tower tumbled, unnerved passers-by just south of Houston Street scattered as a police bomb squad towed away a truck that had been abandoned on King Street.

After that, in first the hours and then the days ahead, every parked, abandoned truck loomed as a potential bomb. The buzz of low-flying military jets or police helicopters inevitably drew anxious glances from pedestrians. The wail of sirens was no longer the white noise backdrop to life in a lively city.

"Anxiety Knocks the Wind Out of a Once-Brash City." New York Times, Sept. 16, 2001

Or did they report vans suspected of or rumored to be carrying explosives pulled over? Or did they simply pass on information that was garbled or untrue, as they did many times that day? Do you have a source for these reports?

I'll say it; If you think that, you're a dunce. There is just no "friendly" reply to that.

The networks report all sorts of incorrect things while trying to track a breaking story. And even newspapers screw up;

"Marcia Kramer of WCBS-TV, our CBS-owned and -operated station in New York, reported some time ago that the FBI had in custody two suspects caught with a pickup truck of explosives around the George Washington Bridge; now further checking on that story that other law enforcement officials in New York said they knew nothing about it, and now Jim Stewart is saying that FBI headquarters in Washington knows nothing about it. We'll have to put that in a long line of things that's under the 'Well, we're skeptical now.' Maybe it's true and maybe it isn't."

-- Dan Rather, 9/11/2001.

I think that's as close to a retraction as Rather ever gets.

How do you know everyone speaking is an "officer"?

I have LastChild on ignore, but if what he or she posted is someone saying "that truck blew up" or somesuch, remember that vehicles were on fire and causing explosions at the World Trade Center after the collapses. The truck with the mural was far away, on King Street. It did not blow up. End of story.

.... officer: [inaudible] always available [inaudible] we’re talkin

If you click on that video and go to the Youtube page, the person who posted it says that he/she thinks that the tape was 'fabricated by government operatives'. That's quite confusing - why are you citing it then?

He posted a transcript of the video, and listed every speaker as being an officer.

That's said at around 2.30-2.35. To me, after the [inaudible] bit, it sounds like someone else saying "that exploded".

Strange how only the pdohertys and LastChilds of the world think this is in any way significant. I have no doubt that they'll still be bringing it up five years from now. Let's not reward them by engaging in microscopic examination of what only they imagine to be suspicious. Remember that their microscope is also a kaleidoscope.
