The way that our current homophobe gets around that question is by use of a personal definition for homosexuality. It is his claim, and likewise the claim of many others suffering from Fundamentalist Disorder, that the word homosexuality refers exclusively to active participation in gay sex.

XenonII insists that as long as he never once gives in to any temptations he may not have admitted, he will not be a homosexual person.

By shifting the definition of homosexuality to one that more conveniently suits their bigotry, homophobic Fundamentalist hate-mongers are able to justify their persecution of homosexuals. As long as they claim that only homosexual activity defines a person as homosexual, they can support their parallel fiction that homosexuality is a choice.

Using this same logic:
I have a daughter who is left handed. She might think about using her left hand to do this or that, but that does not make her left handed. It is only when she offends God by actually using her left hand that she is really left handed. Thus being left handed is a Lifestyle Choice™.

You see, redefine the word as an activity, then you can blame people for it!

I understand there are people who engage in this type of deviant behaviour. In my view, if people want to be fundamentalist Christians and call for acceptance of slavery and death to homosexuals that's fine. As long as they keep it private, and behind closed doors.

You forget that if there are enough people behind those closed doors, there will eventually be homosexuals and weak people among them, who will find themselves victims of homophobia and various kinds of slavery. So while I can't go into their houses and impose on them legal restrictions on how to act (unless we talk actual abuse), their behaviour shouldn't be left unchecked either.

You're right, it was merely my attempt to parody the 'behind closed doors' approach to behaviour that is often advocated by various bigoted groups. Still, I always think that humour is much better if you have to explain it afterwards. :boxedin:

How can you have the gall to say that homosexuals should not be discriminated against, while pronouncing elsewhere that they deserve death?

Finally, why are you bringing spurious social issues into the argument? You cite scripture as your sole source of guidance, even using it to justify your indifference to genuine, ongoing evils such as slavery. Yet when you argue about homosexuality, you bring in your own misguided, misinformed opinions about the "lifestyle" being destructive, and what needs to be done for people to "function in society." If you introduce homosexuality as a social issue then it must be addressed as a social issue, and there are other ways to address it than to have your little ratbag desert demiurge ranting about sin and sodomy. There's a much more simple and effective way of insuring that homosexuals function well in society. That is for society to grow up out of the stone age, and for people of good will, with or without faith, to acknowledge narrow minded bigotry like yours as the aberration it truly is.

XenonII, can you provide a source for your claim about homosexuals and child molestation? Did you simply read it somewhere and adopt it as fact without verifying it because it validated your prejudices? Is Cameron, a demonstrated liar, the source of this claim?

If you find the same sex attractive, sexually, you are homosexual. That is true whether you act on that or not.

People don't get to choose who they are attracted to. Period.

The only people who try to define sexuality by who one is actually having sex with (rather than who they are attracted to) are the people who have a hate-filled, bigoted agenda to support (like you). Amazing that.
