No I'm not. Remember energy cannot be created; therefore, we must eat matter to convert into energy. Are you saying our CNS and organs can make energy out of nothing? If so, where is the matter coming from that keeps us alive? Even fat and muscle is a store of energy that comes from eating and drinking. I think you are the one "turning physics on it's head." Even a gestating animal must get food from its mother in order to live.

I never said we are outside of matter/energy. I said we must eat and drink matter, so we may convert that matter into energy.

I know we have nominations for the best posts, but do we have nominations for the worst? Because this would surely be a good one to consider. Polo, you should have stuck with the TV Show argument. You are basically telling a few people with degrees in physics and chemistry, or for some (inlcuding me) the very least having a year or more of calculus based physics education, that you can understand the field better because you can copy/paste from Wikipedia. Do you not recognize the folly of this? NOBODY is buying it! Either own up and move on or go away!

Here is how stupid this argument in favor of psychic powers is when you take it out to its logical (but absurd) extreme. If every particle in your body is "you", even after "you" have disassociated with it, psychics should be able to find out deep and interesting insights into you, your actions, and your future by talking to a pile of your poo.

Yes, internet debating is fun. With clever semantics and the proper 'tude, one can argue points in favor of most anything, including a Flying Spaghetti Monster. But if psychic power and life after death is a fact, surely you can come up with someone that will prove it under controlled testing? Just one person would do. I am most anxious to see some validated results which can be replicated by the mainstream scientific community, as I'd like to be the first to license wireless communication with the dead. I'd call it the "Friends & Dead Family Plan: only 99 cents a minute to the Afterlife, and beyond". Can you hear me now?

OK. I don't really expect my doctor to be right all the time. But I and many others trust doctors to cure us most of the time. Many doctors see hundreds of patients in the course of a year. People keep returning to their doctors because they get most of it right.

Psychics claim that they can solve crimminal cases. Or, so you believe. You claim that psychics have convinced police that they can solve crimes by providing sufficient details that crimminals can be identified and the lost found. If they can do this anything like 80% of the time, why does not (say, for one example out of many) John Walsh of America's Most Wanted contact them instead of broadcasting requests for help from regular non-psychic folks?

Why is it that out of the "hundreds of times" any of your favourite pyschics they cannot list all the cases they have solved? Do you suppose it is because they have had a lucky random hit with their general nonsense that is the only one they continue to publicize?

You don't have to convince any "skeptics". If psychics could do even one-thousandth of what the claim, every police department would have one or two on staff.

Why is this not true?

Skip the quantum mechanical theorizing. We don't need a theory of how it works. We first need some proof that it works.
 
Let me explain to everyone what I mean by ground state energy. Say you have a pendulum that's swinging back and forth. At some point the pendulum will reach a state where it's at rest. Not so with the subatomic particles that make up your body. They are never completely at rest and that energy that's always present is called zero point energy.

So you have zero point energy or E=hw/2 at every point in space and that gives you infinite zero point energy.

Um no. From Wikipedia, first sentence in the zero-point energy entry: "In physics, the zero-point energy is the lowest possible energy that a quantum mechanical physical system may possess and is the energy of the ground state of the system."

How does infinite energy equal lowest possible energy?
