Does Israel Have The Right To Exist?

Does Israel have the right to exist?

  • Total voters
    70
  • Poll closed .
Should the US support Isreal as much as it does, is a more provocative question.

Do the United States of America have the right to exist?
a) NO they do not! They should be a part of Great Britain!
b) Yes, but they should return to 1803 borders
c) Yes, but return all land with the exception of the 13 original states
d) Yes, and they should keep all land captured

Everyone should be Canadian.

And yes, Israel should continue to exist, just like every other country that currently exists. It wouldn't bother me if they kept any land they captured once attacked. Although it would be nice if they gave it back.

I voted no, simply because it's appropriate to both the both the poster and the poll.

All I smell around here is...

Chiming in here, with a "no vote at all". Actually, I think this poll is an excellent example of what can happen when a poll is deliberately worded to encourage people towards specific examples. It's also an excellent example of false di-(or multi-)chotomies. So it's a really good example of what a poll shouldn't be.

Edited to add: er, it should be "...towards specific answers", not examples. Argh!

In support of your point, I suggest that a poll asking "should a man have three testicles?" would be as useful a question.

I rather like rtalman's suggested poll. : ) It's not that I don't have some issues about how Isreal came about, or some suspicions of my own (Europe: we don't want the Jews, what do we do with them! I know, let's put them all somewhere else!) which are, granted, probably pretty simplistic. But on the other hand, Israel is there now. So the world is going to have to learn how to deal with that, and how to come up with a constructive compromise. And, sorry, "drive them all into the sea" is not particularly constructive.

Okay, that was too serious. "Three testicles" huh? Why not four?

I wish I had said that. :)

Palestinian schools have for years been educating children with textbooks that utterly deny Israel’s right to exist. As a result, Palestinian students have no real knowledge of the Jewish nation or any factual basis on which to accept Israel as a neighbor A recent pole of Palestinian students shows a distinct connection between PA curriculum and the opinions of Palestinian school children: Among young people ages 18 -25 (those who have been most influenced by PA education) between 84% - 93% denied Israel's right to exist. This was even higher than the overall palestinian statistics of 75% who were of the same opinion. PA teachings denying the legitimacy of the Jewish state are endemic throughout PA society and media, especially among Fatah leaders. Under such bias tutelage what can be expected of the next generation of Palestinian citizens and their leaders in terms of a peaceful co-existence with Israel?
