Browne wrong again and the police pay: Hunter Horgan

What makes me angry is that SB claimed to know the name of a wanted murderer, but wouldn't give it to the police hunting him!
Why didn't they arrest her?

Well, presently it is “unethical” to give the name of the killer to the police, especially if they have just paid you for that information.
And as Sylvia is such a “spiritual” person, she must be more ethical than mre sceptics like us, so we couldn’t possibly understand.

What law enforcement work would she be doing that wasn't a rush job?

Cold cases.
You know, when you can come along 50 years after the crime and say "I see the killer as he is today - he's got white hair, and uses a cane". Or you can come alogn 100 years after the murder and say "this man will never be caught, or found out. He never repented and was buried alongside his wife, who never knew the truth".
That kind of thing.

know what? i think browne is doing this on purpose. how? im not so sure but i think it has something to do with randi... a direc connection of patterns is showing here i believe.

My father, the homicide detective, gets calls from psychics whenever a murder is on the news. The high profile ones, of course. Never the homeless drug addicts.

In one instance, he answered the phone to a psychic saying she knew where a certain body was.

Pop: "You know where her body is and who killed her?"
Psychic: "Yes! I see her, very clearly. Her aura is strong (insert generic woo woo)"
Pop: "Can you tell me what I'm holding in my hand right now?"
Psychic: ".. what?"
Pop: "I'm holding something in my hand right now. If you can tell me what it is, then you can help us out with this."
Psychic: (flustered) "It doesn't work like that!"
Pop: "Well then, there's nothing you can do for us."

My dad says there has never been a single case that has been solved by a psychic. Probably true.

Well, she wasn't as sharp and quick on the take as most psychics - even I know what was in his hand at that moment!

A telephone! That'll be $400 please.

And in all fairness *cough* it is probably a "rush" job for Sylvia because her consultations are booked for, what, a couple years or so? For someone as 'ethical' as Sylvia, surely telling someone over the phone they'll find love/money/a job in the next 18-24 months is more important.

Riiiiight I see. Yeah, she was so ethical that instead of giving up the killer to the police, she went to the killer and said "Hey boy, I know what you done. My psychic powers tell me you was the one who killed that poor pastor. But don't worry - I won't give you away to the police. That's unethical! Instead, I'll give you some spiritual advice - direct from your guardian angel. And your guardian angel says to repent, clear your karma by giving yourself up, or you won't get to heaven and you'll have to come back and clear your karma in another life. Oh, your guardian angel also says to give my church a donation, to help clear some of your karma right now. We accept cash, checks and all major credit cards. Bless you!"

Furthermore, with all these missing persons cases she's solved, you'd think the FBI or what have you would be celebrating her, be actively looking for psychics to recruit. The news would be filled with accounts of cases closed by psychics! Crime would cease to happen entirely for fear of being caught by a psychic! Forensic scientists and all detectives should be a thing of the past!!

Just curious, are psychics allowed to submit testimony in trial? Then again, I'm sure no prosecutor is stupid enough to put a psychic on the stand in the absense of physical evidence...

yairhol, zombiebex,

A friend of mine at work has told me that her father is a cop, and has worked with psychics before. I really want to take some time and sit down with her and get some specifics. Does he hire them? How are they paid? Have any cases been solved with information from a psychic? And so on.

Your friend's dad is the one you ought to sit down with. Growing up with cops, I don't know a single one who has worked with psychics when it comes to an actual investigation.

Surely the correct response would be

Psychic : "I know where the body is and who killed her"
Police : "Excelent, there's a several armed police on the way to pick you up for questioning, please don't move or try to run away."

Seriously, if someone claims to know exactly where and how a murder took place, how are they not immediately the prime suspect?

I'm sure many psychics would love to work with the police, and for no charge. After all, once they do they can forever claim that they "worked with" the police with no risk of someone finding contradictory evidence. Someone investigating the claim would likely find out that the psychic didn't solve the case but they can't debunk the more general claim because, whatever the claim's actual worth, it's true.

It was also amusing that in the video from the original post the business manager made a big deal that Sylvia would "consult" on the Chandra Levy case without charging any money. Well, "duh," because the publicity of doing so is worth many times more than she could "reasonably" charge for such a consultation.

Oh, so I see more than a few people here know how the inner workings of Sylvia Browne Corporation and The Society of Novus Spiritus work.
