The geologist, that I discussed the sandstone formations with, had actually studied them on site, for many years.

And did you discuss your ideas about how they were formed with him and he agreed that your scenario was just as likely as any other? If so, I'd like to know who this geologist is and where he got his degree so I could contact his school and let them know they turned out a lemon.

His opinion was from observation, not photographs.

Yet your hypotheses are seemingly based on nothing more than appearance and how it compares to your fantasies. And it doesn't even compare well to those. You can't even seem to decide if the creature has legs or not.

So far the geologists in this forum have agreed on only one thing " geology is a field subject ".

Incorrect. They've also agreed that of the orgins discussed, the "giant flying serpent" hypothesis is by far the most unlikely.

Speaking of legs :
I don't think that the serpent had legs . It was a bit like an insect in that it underwent different stages of form .
It started out like a grub , grew wings and flew , then ended up as a giant slug like creature in old age , earth bound .
The "footprints" were created when it closed it's wings together to form a "hand" , which it used to pull itself along .

I am pleased you used the term " most unlikely" That is a quantum leap from "impossible" .

In the earlier post where you showed a picture of a bat's wing with the description of fingers, I explained why this would not work (90 degree rotation of wing backwards). I have also explained that Hawaiian mythology does not include a "creator serpent". Would you care to address these comments?

OK ,Hokulele .
The bats wing was to show the general shape of the wing .
In reality the serpents wing was more like the fin of a fish .
With its wings fully extended it would have looked like a giant butterfly .
Probably a dozen fingers with membrane between them .

At a guess I would say that there is no serpent myths in Hawiian culture because there in no sandstone on the Islands .............. ?

You sure about that buzz? you might want to check out the geology of Maui, notably the Wailuku/Waiehu area. There are some great sandstone bluffs right below a major He'iau...

Well, that's clearly an alien sculpture, probably by the same aliens which aided Egyptian and Mayan cultures.

It's even clearer that the Frogs used it as a blueprint for Lady Liberty.

I am (probably obviously) British, and naturally use British spellings when I write, just because that is what is most natural *for me*. I barely register the difference in the "k" or "c" version when I am reading.

Typos, and minor spelling mistakes,do not bother me; quoting "Einstien" or "Steven Hawkins" shows carelessness. Bad grammar often is symptomatic of muddled thinking. Obtuse vocabulary, especially if the words are not used with their conventional nuances of meaning... That is a sign of someone who hasn't realised that brevity and clarity are what demonstrate grasp of a subject.

Now you continue posting pics here, hoping you'll convince someone of your "theories"?

If you want to convince someone in what has agreed upon to be a "field subject" you might actually have get your tuckus out of that (office) chair and do some legwork.
Search for an internship. Apply for a temp job. Perhaps you will reconsider your "theories" after a couple of hundred hours work in the field and a couple of hundred headshakes from colleagues whom you have presented your stories.

Oops, I forgot: You don't have to prove anything. Which is of course the reason you discuss your "theories".

I and a few others live right here in the same place as Buzz (allegedly) lives. We could check out his field sites easy enough. We also have enough basic geology and science research skills and resources between us that we could get a solid handle on whatever Buzz's formations might be. And report back here too.

The point being: Is it actually worth our time to do that? I decided it wasn't - Buzz was not actually interested in any of that. In fact, he showed clearly he would prefer we didn't research his wonkiness. His wish was granted.

I used to mountain bike over in Waiehu quite often, and I can guarantee you there will be nothing like that in any photos. Most of the sandstone on Maui looks like, well, piles of sand. Many of the exposed areas are due to construction, whether roads or subdivisions, not as many due to weathering. You have the beach sand sandstone in Wailuku/Waiehu/Waihee, and cinder sandstone up around Polipoli. Unfortunately, I cannot take pictures up in Polipoli right now, due to a large brushfire that has left the area unsafe (deadfalls and such). If I happen to be in town for any reason, I will try and remember to take a camera.

Taking on Mr Randi's challenge is a bit like climbing a mountain , Little 10 Toes .
When many others have failed, it is best not to go up the same route .
So at the moment I am skirting the flanks of the mountain looking for the best way up .
Normally, it is the preparation that is all inportant in climbing, and the time taken is well spent, so I will continue to probe till the way becomes clear .

Ah yes, the Polipoli fire....ruined one of my favorite soaring spots. I've been forced to fly my glider over at 3rd marine park in Ha'iku because of that mess...Sorry buzz, no pics today, it was primo flying weather & both my stunt kite & Zagi were calling...
