Randi on Anderson Cooper 360

We must not forget Sylvia's Sago mine fiasco, although that has not gotten much press...

I was waiting for Cooper or Randi to mention it, but, alas, no luck.

OMG! Sylvia doens't ASK FOR MONEY?! People just DONATE $750 for a reading? So, I can call her up and ask for a reading and she'll give it to me and I DON'T have to pay the $750 if I don't want to?
Sweet Zombie Jesus, I'm calling.
In fairness, she added "if someone has a missing persons case or to help law enforcement." Of course, that followed the pass-the-buck "Sylvia never asked for money from the Hombecks but I can't swear someone on staff mistakenly didn't" answer.

Let's several of us call up Browne and say we desperately need her services but can't pay a dime and see what happens. Who's game?

Just because Randi is an atheist doesn't change the fact that Sylvia Browne is wrong...

Or wait a minute, if Randi were a Christian (of whatever sort Sylvia claims to be), does that mean she would have gotten all of those predictions right?

Cooper's response was freakin' awesome... "Because I'm asking questions, does that make me godless?"

Edit: I'm also really glad that the first point Randi made was that you have to look at all of the data, not just the hits, which was one thing that was annoying me about the lead-in: "We asked Sylvia to provide success stories..." But even her supposed hits fall apart under scrutiny!

I liked the part where the PR woman said:
"First and foremost she's a spiritual teacher."

I think she expected the usual softball technique Sylvia gets on CNN (on Larry King), and not AC's calling her out that on her web site it says she's a psychic first.

Randi, to his credit, remained silent for the PR person's opening rant. She then proceeded to interupt Randi as he was trying to make a point. Both Randi and Anderson lost patience with this, with Randi yelling "Do you mind!" The look on her face after that was priceless. That "I better call him an atheist again" face.

Wow. Anderson Cooper was brutally unbiased. Sylvia's business manager - aka _partner_, since she's been there 30 years - didn't seem ready for anybody to actually examine her claims.

I've never watched his show before. Is he normally like that?

Randi didn't seem to have a chance to get much in. I wonder if he helped out in the show preparation.

I was hoping Randi'd have the time to say something like, "I don't need to be a Christian to determine that Shawn is still alive and Sylvia was wrong."

Yeah, Sylvia has never asked for money? So everybody just donates exactly $700 at random? How nice of them.

Of course, before they got to the interview they had a segment on a woman paid the $700 to be told her son was schizophrenic and in Tennessee. Neither of which was true. Since the business manager told Cooper that Sylvia does NOT charge for missing person cases... that seemed to counter that comment.

Holly [rule8]ing [rule8]! Linda Rossi could not have come off like more of a loon if she had worn that yellow feather outfit from American Idol tonight.

Wish Randi had been given more time but I don't think he needed it.

Sylvia is on the defensive. Now is the time to ramp up the activity: put out the press release renewing the challenge; call for people to send in their taped readings; get Montel to book Randi. Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!

What was that part where she implied that Sylvia wasn't wrong about Shawn being dead? I'm having trouble typing because I'm laughing so hard.

Sylvia has nothing. The "to prove" is window dressing. I couldn't agree more. The panic shown be her organization is pretty obvious. Her back is against the wall and her followers can go down with the ship along side her or swim like rats. This goes so well with the new focus of the $1M challenge.

I still don't see how Sylvia would appeal to christians. She is new age nonsense and her humbug is not too compatible with christianity.

Browne admitted she is not always correct--doesn't that suggest she is admitting to guessing? If she is in contact with god and the spirit world--she should always be correct--unless god is misleading her--or could god be imperfect?

I agree. Do do do do!

Email Anderson Cooper. Email Montel to book Randi. Get people to send in their taped readings. Yes! Yes! Yes!

***Call in tomorrow and ask for a reading and claim you can't pay the $700!

Is there any significance to the fact that Browne's business manager is the one to appear on TV now? Given the current heat on Browne, is she reluctant to face the cameras? Or am I reading too much into this, and it is a perfectly normal practice?

I think it's called...:chicken: :chicken: :chicken: :chicken:

Well, in her world, any misses are from problems communicating with the spirits, or the subject's problems understanding her messages. I personally think that the lowest level of hell would be being forced to be a floating spirit who could only chat with people with long fingernails via charades. I promise my first message would be "Smack this woman with all of your strength, I cannot believe that you are spending your time on this."
