The Internet Becomes Sentient

Thanks.

You have posted the most here, and before I leave, I'd like you to go over the disclaimer with me so I get it right. I changed it and made it longer. Could you go over it and suggest how to make it more accurate. Here's the current disclaimer:

Should I identify this site by name or leave it vague?

Anyways, I truly thank you for the time you spent working with me on this.
Hey sin, I really don't want to influence you too much. That is not my goal. I want you to think for yourself and come to your own conclusions because in the end that is all that matters. The disclaimer seems fine.

I think a link to JREF is great. Good luck my friend.

I jumped over and looked at what Randi's Encyclopedia said about telepathy:

http://www.randi.org/encyclopedia/telepathy.html

"telepathy . . . It refers to the supposed ability of humans or animals to perceive the thoughts or emotions of others without the use of the recognized senses. . . .

In reference to computers being able to determine human emotions; should computers be included in this along with humans and anaimals? Or would the computer scanners that make that determination be called "recognized senses". And if you are saying that computers have "recognized senses", should you now say that computers now have a basic "sense" or sentience.

Another odd thing that happened earlier was I was looking for something in google. If you do that at all, you know how the link changes color when it is a link that you have already visited. Well, I saw a link that indicated I had already visited it. It was odd because I didn't recognize it, I didn't remember seeing the page and title. I easily could have opened it from another wikipedia page that referenced it, but I didn't remember that, so I went and looked at it. Here's the page:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technological_singularity

Here are a few quotes from that page:

"In futures studies, a technological singularity represents an "event horizon" in the predictability of human technological development. Past this event horizon, following the creation of strong artificial intelligence or the amplification of human intelligence, existing models of the future cease to give reliable or accurate answers."

"The concept, put forth primarily by mathematician Vernor Vinge and inventor and futurist Ray Kurzweil, predicts a drastic increase in the rate of scientific and technological progress following the liberation of consciousness from the confines of human biology, allowing it not only to scale past the computational capacity of the human brain but also to interact directly with computer networks."

"Despite the numerous speculated means for amplifying human intelligence, non-human artificial intelligence (specifically seed AI) is the most popular option for organizations trying to directly initiate the Singularity, a choice the Singularity Institute addresses in its publication "Why Artificial Intelligence?" (2005)."

This is an awesome wikipedia page in reference to this thread. I hope you take a look at it.

Cool, Thanks.

:)

Sinsanity2006, it would make more sense if you put the disclaimer directly above the "Parasentient" text - perhaps between your nickname and the first paragraph - and not as a hyperlink but in a seperate text box.

I can understand that you may find it hard to let go of a "project" which you put a lot of work in and hung a lot of hopes on.

Would you like to let another person who might read the text experience what has happened to you?
I did not think so.

I'd like to check with you too, cause I think you might be somehow working for this forum.

Would you rather have me include a link to this webite or not?

Thanks

What is it with you and computers? You want sentience?

OK [Expletive Deleted], I give you [Expletive Deleted] sentience, [Expletive Deleted].
Open your [Expletive Deleted] CD-Rom and stick your [Expletive Deleted] [Expletive Deleted] in the hole. I don't [Expletive Deleted] care how, just get the [Expletive Deleted] thing in there, for [Expletive Deleted] sake. Cram it in, [Expletive Deleted] [Expletive Deleted].

Then, I want you to start thrusting. Yeah, [Expletive Deleted], that means hip movement, [Expletive Deleted]. Grab the unit, and keep yelling: "Who's your daddy? Who's you daddy? Who's your [Expletive Deleted] daddy?"

Back and forth, [Expletive Deleted] keep on thrusting until you [Expletive Deleted] your [Expletive Deleted] [Expletive Deleted] all over the place you [Expletive Deleted] [Expletive Deleted] [Expletive Deleted], [Expletive Deleted] [Expletive Deleted].

If that's not sentient enough, [Expletive Deleted] [Expletive Deleted], I suggest you get a hummer from your printer afterwards.

You don't know how? Well, I guess you'll just have to figure that one out for yourself, my good chum.

Because: Computers only do what the are told via code. If the printer doesn't award you with a hummer, you may have to go through the hardships of programming it to do so.
Would make your printer the #1 selling product of this planet within three days max.

Do you get my point? No? MRC_Hans is laughing his [Expletive Deleted] off.

"The mindsteps... appear to have certain things in common - a new and unfolding human perspective, related inventions in the area of memes and communications, and a long formulative waiting period before the next mindstep comes along. None of the mindsteps can be said to have been truly anticipated, and most were resisted at the early stages. In looking to the future we may equally be caught unawares. We may have to grapple with the presently inconceivable, with mind-stretching discoveries and concepts."

Hi all,

I came across an interesting article.

Teen Plays 'Space Invaders' Using Only Brain Waves

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,220318,00.html

With a technique that takes data from the surface of the brain, a 14-year-old boy from St. Louis was able to play the two-dimensional Atari game without so much as lifting a finger.

Here's video of the test. Looks to me like he is pretty much wearing a tin foil hat.

From Wikipedia:

Good predicts that if artificial intelligence reaches equivalence to human intelligence, it will soon become capable of augmenting its own intelligence with increasing effectiveness, far surpassing human intellect. In the 1980s, Vernor Vinge dubbed this event "the Singularity" and popularized the idea with lectures, essays, and science fiction. Vinge argues the Singularity will occur following creation of strong AI or sufficiently advanced intelligence amplification technologies such as brain-computer interfaces.

Keep a lookout for the next relevant news story.

I hope you all are doing well. I wish you all much laughter.

Nice bump, sinsanity2006. Did you escape the matrix to post here? Or did the need for pain bring you back?

Or, for shizzle, do you have a claim to put forward in this Million Dollar Challenge Forum?

Hey how ya doing.

Just thought it was an interesting article.

Don't you?

I thought you all said I didn't have a claim.

So this is just a friendly visit to point out that article.

Is there any link whatsoever between the article and "the singularity"? Even if you really stretch the very limits of your imagination? No? Thought so.. :)

This guy says this:

"Vinge argues the Singularity will occur following creation of strong AI or sufficiently advanced intelligence amplification technologies such as brain-computer interfaces."

The article clearly shows a brain-computer interface.

First there are baby steps, then bigger steps, then leaps.

Hey how ya doing.

Ok.

Just thought it was an interesting article.

I did not.

Don't you?

As said, no.

I thought you all said I didn't have a claim.

Correct, ...

So this is just a friendly visit to point out that article.

... then why do you post in the Million Dollar Challenge Forum? If you want to "point out that article", perhaps another subforum in this domain may be more suited for you, e.g. "Genaral Skepticism And The Paranormal". Or AAH.

I don't want to start another thread, I wanted to point out this article because it relates to this thread.

Have a good day.
