The Gospel

It's actually very easy to lust after all those beautifully dressed and well made-up Christian ladies on Sundays,

Meh, all the ones I knew dressed like it was still 1972, had their hair sprayed three feet tall, and wore clown-whore makeup.

just ask the Christian Men - especially the Preacher.

Dude, he's looking at the altar boys.

In my experience, if the church ladies have something to flaunt, you can bet they will be dressed to show off their assets. The younger ladies are especially prone to wear tight fitting attire; and of course, the men have no problem with that. Match-making is one of the main events at church.

You may be right about the Altar Boys at Catholic Churches! My church experience is mostly with Protestant Churches, so I wouldn't know about the Catholics.

It's all good. God likes it when his flock dresses up for him. There's never any LUST of course, that would be SIN, and we all know that doesn't happen in the House of the Lord. Especially by the Preacher!

Kathy, I know exactly who you are. Or, at least, I know a good deal about why you think what you think. Let's see how I do.

Power. You don't really have any. Oh, you know what it is, and you see it in others--usually others who have some sort of power over you: family, teachers, employers, significant others....

For most of your life, you've felt pretty powerless. So much so that you've fantasized for hours about what you'd do if you had magic powers, or if you got three wishes, or if you were Samantha, or Sabrina. But magic like that either doesn't exist, or isn't meant for you, because you've never had it, and you've sure needed it.

You've tried drugs, because they can either make you feel nine feet tall and bulletproof, or make you so dreamy you don't give a rat's fat behind about anything. Shoot, for some people, certain drugs can make them just feel "normal." Then you realize you can't even control the power drugs have over you, and you feel like such a loser, because you gave them that power, and you didn't even know you had it to start with.

Of course you tried Wicca and Paganism, crystals and tarot and healing stones, invocations to the Goddess (because men have been such jerks to you, usually, that they're real hard to worship) and essential oils and herbs...
But none of that really gave you any power, either. In fact, it was getting around that you believed all that crap, and people were starting to look at you funny.

You've tried relationships, but somehow the guys you picked always had some flaw. You never could find just the right guy, or even the adequate guy. They all wanted to control you, or ignore you, or just use you for whatever. And if they couldn't get what they wanted, they might hit you. Power again. Always someone else's power.

And then, gloriosky, you found God! Another wish-fullfiller, another promise-maker, but this time, the most powerful one of them all! Shoot, just look at how many people say they believe, too! Surely you can manage to fit in with that crowd--it's huge. Surely you've finally found the one thing that will take control of your life and manage it for you--why, you don't even need that stinking old "power" anymore. You've got the power of numbers. Most people approve of Christians. Most people accept social rejects who "find the Lord and turn their lives around." In fact, you've even met people who not only want to hear your story of redemption, but actually ask you to tell it! This is great! People notice you, and they give you strokes, and they nod and murmur approval when you cite Bible verses or speak of some insight the lord has given you.

You don't even have to fully take responsibility for anything you've done. Sure you committed sins: you belonged to Satan, after all. How could you help but be sinful? But God forgives! It's all okay now! You did do wrong, but you couldn't really help it, and now God is in control. God controls your life, and now you can finally stop looking for power.

Me, though, I'm not all that impressed. As far as I can tell, you're just on the next leg in your search. You're just looking in the next most logical place to find what you don't have.

Logical, that is, if one refuses to look to oneself. See, I figure there are a couple of ways, at least, to seek power. (Heh.)
You can look for power in outside sources, or you can look to yourself.

I wonder if you realize that your conversion to Christianity is equivalent to your involvement in Paganism, drugs, and relationships? You just call it something else now, and follow a slightly different set of rules. And what you believe now is more acceptable; that's important. But it's all still a search for power from a source outside yourself.

To sum this up: you're still just waiting for someone to grant your three wishes, rather than realizing you're the only one who can. And I'm trying to tell you that if that's what you want, by all means, please have it. Please take it into that corner there and have it all you want.

But stop asking me why I don't want it. I know something you don't know, that's why I don't want it. Maybe someday you'll figure out what I know, and you won't want it anymore, either. Or maybe you'll figure out how to keep from shoving it down unwilling throats.

At least, that's my wish.

Yes, I quoted the entire thing. I want this post to exist in its entirety on this page of this thread, and perhaps at least once on each ensuing page.

I cannot speak for anyone else, but Sling's post nicely articulates some of my personal impressions of Kathy.

Sling, well thought out, and well said.

I too agree that slingblade's post was excellent. I think his post can apply generally to any Fundy.

Hi Edge, this scripture which I found in 1 John 2:15-17 is what I focus on much. This world is truely passing away quickly, but God's word will never pass away!
Do Not Love the World
Do not love the world nor the things in the world If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

Slightly modified version of the "God Loves Cussing" Theorum. Modified as follows:

Let:
R = The amount of religious fervor the poster professes
F = The number of times the poster claims that God loves and forgives them despite their (obvious) shortcomings
A = The ability to spell/use punctuation/understand how the internet works
p = The number of posts the poster makes total
P = The number of posts in which the poster actually attempts a point, rather than just restating previous assertions of faith, or declarations of being a persecuted Christian.
S = The amount of unprovoked bible verses the poster uses to provide evidence for God.

(R x F) p
------- x -- = S
A P

If S > 1, the poster must forward the thread to their entire cult compound, resulting in either proper shame and humiliation for the poster, or more hilarity for the rest of us once the whole church gets involved.

I win. Thread over.

Trantor this is sick! This shows how evil some peoples hearts are, they only see the bad, never the good. There is corruption everywhere in this world, but you choose to look at the church instead of what's going on in the world. The sins of the father passed down from generation to generation until someone chooses to follow Christ and resist the devil. The only way things change is if we do.

I have heard many people here rubbing it in as far as my past goes, what you aren't seeing is that I have turned from my sins now. God changes people and gives us the strength to overcome the sin in this fallen world. I can't change the past, but I can turn from a life of sin and start trusting God.

What about you guys. Are you gona stay rubbing the past in peoples faces , or are you gona choose to forgive them? I wish this world was a nicer place to be, but it's not. And why Satan chooses to try to destroy Christians and their testimony is beyond belief. The theif only comes to kill and destroy!

So god can't do it? Doesn't sound very omnipotent to me.
God can and does do it. Getting Right With God....

After many years of doing the wrong things I was confronted. God knows each one of us and is not willing that any of us should perish. His Holy word says that He will turn us over to our sin and the evil one if necessary to save our souls if that’s what it takes? Well that’s what it took for me and I lived to tell about it.. I just pray that others won’t have to go through what I went through to get it. See, we all need the savior. Jesus died on that cross for a reason, to save us all from our sins which is mans natural state.
Our God is Holy and the only way we can be reconciled to Him is through the blood that Jesus Christ shed for each one of us. ”The only way to the Father is through the Son.” Do you know Him yet? See without Him our lives are incomplete and if we want God in our lives we can only connect through believing He died so we could live. Do you care about going to heaven? We need to wake up and realize that God is not mocked and only His truth can set us free. I just wish I had learned to read my Bible years ago. Maybe I would not have strayed so far from the truth. But what it took for me was coming face to face with my demons. They had me buying so many lies I would not know where to begin telling you in this letter.

Psalm 143:10 says, "Teach me to do your will, For You are my God: Your Spirit is good. Lead me in the land of uprightness." I hope all will focus on his plan through his word. I myself cannot change what I did in the past and know God can use it to work for the good. But I would never tell anyone it's ok to learn about new age/ occult stuff after my own personal conviction and turn around. It distracts us from God's truth.
Focus on learning the word. Then when you are confronted w/ people involved in the occult or other beliefs, you may be useful in helping them see the light. Not having to try to see it from their perspective. We don't need to play Satans game. It's playing w/ fire and not acceptable for a Christian. "Don't learn the hard way like I did."
Ultimately when witnessing to people involved in false teachings we must stand on the word and remember God is not the author of confusion. That's all that other junk. We are in the world not of it. Only the Holy Spirit can open anyone's eyes and ears and some will not be able to see but stand strong on his word!
I had people praying for me for 10 years! God loves to answer prayer for those still in darkness so fight the good fight and stay on the straight and narrow path that leads us home!

You know, this is why I could never become a fundamentalist Christian, or whatever brand of Christianity that kathy espouses.

How can you read her post, and not have all the logic circuits in your brain overheat?

God loves you so much he will cast you into eternal hell? Yes, General, we had to destroy the village to save it, too.

She then jumps up and down on how a person has to come to Jesus, but it doesn't matter if Jesus doesn't want them first.

It just makes my head spin. All the more, knowing that she says she has children.

JREF internet law #2:

2) As interaction with Christian Fundamentalists progresses in a thread, the chances of references to Christians being a persecuted minority or that they follow the "path less taken" approaches 100%.

Next she'll Godwin and call us Nazis.

. . . God knows each one of us and is not willing that any of us should perish.

Cool! If He's truly "not willing that any of us should perish" all He has to do is say "Hey, everybody! I've closed down Hell and thrown open the gates of Paradise. C'mon in and let's party!"

On the other hand, if He's still pulling that "you've got to believe first" stuff, then your line about Him not being willing is revealed as so much chemically pure bovine excrement.

I just wish I had learned to read my Bible years ago.

You should learn to read it now, instead of regurgitating preaching you've been fed. Most definitions of the word "read" include the word "understand". That's the part you are missing. Read the parts they don't talk about in church. Those are the ones where you will see what a cruel, evil bastard he is and what a bunch of lying pathetic losers the apostles where, especially Paul. John was just insane, so I guess he can be excused.

Anybody that can truly read and think about the bible and not think it's a bunch of crap has a defective brain.

All I was saying is that the church is no different from the rest of the world. I wrote what I personally have seen and experienced. I know from others that it is no different at other churches. It's human nature. We are animals; fancy ones perhaps, but still animals. If you think that Christians are somehow above sexuality in church, then you you are living in your own Fundy World, certainly a long way from reality.

Mating Behavior is a basic human instinct. Anywhere where people congregate, you will find it.

I am glad that you have changed your old ways. It's good to be a good person for it's own sake, not because you fear the fires of Hell. To improve yourself and to learn is a very worthy goal in life.
