By then Syd was a recluse. The average person in the street has a remarkable lack of curiosity. They'll experience events in the news, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, wildfires and flooding as discrete one-off incidents with little interest in what caused them. Likewise, terrorist incidents. For any major disaster, be it natural, man-made or terrorist, there will be a clear timeline of events or stages leading up to it. So, the earthquake will be preceded by moving tectonic plates deep in the earth jarring against each other, the tsunamis and wildfires by severe weather preceding them, perhaps even arsonists fanning the flames in the former, the recent flooding in Nepal suspected to be a glacier breaking off, destabilising the mud on higher ground to catastrophic effect. It is exactly the same thing with major terrorist attacks, such as 9/11. They didn't just happen out of the blue. The WTC terror attack was meticulously planned, even years in advance, and it wasn't just a case of wanton vandalism by bored teenagers, this was a cassus belli moment, or that was the intent or the perception by Bush. It is just bonkers to say, 'We must not be curious about what led up to it or the political motivation' because 'that would be anti-Semitic'.Waters is appearing at a conference where the theme is "Israel did 9-11":
For the record, Syd Barrett never said anything about 9-11. Probably because he's not a jerk.
Why would it be, unless you are concurring it all goes back to Israel and its formation as a State; otherwise, why go to war against Al-Quaeda, in Afghanistan, Iraq and later, the caliphate in Syria, as a result of the 'war on terror' arising from it? In fact, New York-born Netanyahu, leader of the Israeli hard-right LIKUD party, had by 9/11, written various books, one of which was explicitly titled, The War on Terror. Obviously, Israelis want to defend their state, and the surrounding Arabic nations are intent on never leaving it alone or giving it peace, constantly firing rockets from the Hezbollah in Lebanon and/or sporadic attacks by the Hamas from Gaza, the latest of which being the 10/7 atrocity. Now we have the Hormuz Strait situation involving Israel and the USA, again versus the Arabic Islamist states.
This didn't happen out of thin air. There have been numerous 'Peace Summits' from Camp David onwards (Clinton and Arafat, Amiel Sharon before that). This wasn't a new discrete situation, a squally shower out of nowhere, it was a continuation of the ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Bush and Netanyahu recognised this. Are the Arabic nations 'anti-Semitic' towards Israel? Yes, they are atrocious terrorists, but as far as they are concerned, this ongoing conflict is about what they see as Palestinian land being forcibly annexed and militarised on the Gaza strip, the West Bank and the Golan Heights and part of Jordan/Syria, entire local villages razed. People working outside those regions needing to go through security checkpoints for work. Houses torn down if convicted of a crime. Strict apartheid. Millions crammed into a tiny barbed-wired strip.
Whoever is right or wrong, it is narrow-minded and simplistic to claim it is 'anti-Semitic' to look towards Israel and the Palestinian conflict as being the tectonic plates, as it were, leading up to the 'earthquake' situation of the 9/11 atrocity. I think we can all agree that those nineteen Egyptian pilots flying the five planes were not the ringleaders or the funders behind it. Well you can call it a conspiracy to bring up Israel in this but a quick study of history should tell you it is not an isolated fluke incident. Analysis is actually needed, not ignored.
