Yeah I don't know exaxcly what my fine motor skills are doing. I never learned to type properly, and that one is my brain typing the letter of the next word stuck to the previous one. I'm also dyslexic typing where I do not mix up the letters with pen and paper.

I sympathise. While not dyslexic, my typing has absolutely gone to crap over the years as my fingers don't wait nicely for each other. The rot set in with "teh" for "the". And yes I absolutely stick letters from the next word I'm thinking of into the one I'm still typing. It's been a long time since I could just type and press send without proof reading what I just mashed in to the keyboard.
 
I think there is a small problem with the constitution and the executive branch. But...

Jeffries isn't my favorite by a long shot, but there's not really much he can do about any of it short of complaining on social media or on mainstream media. If we want to give him and the other Dems real power to actually do something, then people need to actually show up to vote this time.

That's my question as well. From what I remember Maduro was replaced by his vice-president, nothing else in the leadership of Venezuela changed and there have been no elections. Is there any actual change in the way that regime acts? Or did Trump just remove the embargo allowing them to sell the oil again and is he calling that gifts?

No all the money from selling oil or gold goes into a US account, then the US releases it to Venezuela for approved purposes.

  • In connection with this agreement, the Venezuelan interim authorities have granted North American Blue Energy Partners (NABEP), a privately held oil company that is the second-largest private Venezuelan oil producer and a proven operator, 100-year concessions for 17 oil fields with proven reserves of approximately 65 billion barrels.
  • At no cost to the American taxpayer, NABEP has granted the U.S. Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital a 35% equity stake in its corporate parent, representing up to hundreds of billions in value and dividends for the United States.
  • NABEP has granted the U.S. Department of State the right to purchase, at production cost, a guaranteed 20% of the off-take from all current and future fields NABEP will operate—ensuring a stable supply of low-cost oil that can facilitate refilling the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR).
  • NABEP has granted the U.S. Department of State the right of first refusal to purchase the remaining 80% of its production, providing a guaranteed source of energy in our hemisphere in emergency situations.
  • NABEP will pay an expected $200 billion in royalty and tax payments over the first 25 years, representing critical revenue and fiscal support for current and future Venezuelan governments to fund reconstruction and social development.

Yeah, Maduro was replaced by his VP and there haven't been elections (which their constitution demands if their president can't hold office). She's now running what is in effect a puppet government with Marco Rubio having oversight on various areas. (Trump had the opposition leader Machado lined up to be put in place, until she committed the unforgivable sin of accepting the Nobel peace prize Trump expected for himself.)

Venezuela has enacted laws to allow foreign (i.e. US) oil companies to develop new fields, and the US has dropped its sanctions which were preventing exports, not least the sanction preventing Venezuela importing naphtha, which I gather it needs to thin its tarry oil to let it flow.

Sale of oil exports seems to be being handled by the US, with money for Venezuela being put into a US-controlled fund, allegedly to keep Venezuela's creditors hands off it and so the US gets to decide what it gets spent on. What the actual deal is, in regards of how much Venezuela gets paid for the oil US companies extract, I have absolutely no idea.

The sanctions are still in place which prevents non-US companies competing for business; exemptions are issued to do business on the basis the funds flow through the US government. Keeping sanctions in place prevents e.g. Chinese businesses competing. This is part of the Donroe doctrine, similar to how Chinese companies were expelled from Panama.

REASSERTING THE MONROE DOCTRINE & EXPELLING FOREIGN ADVERSARIES FROM OUR HEMISPHERE: The majority of the incremental oil fields to be operated by NABEP were previously controlled or operated by Russian and Chinese firms, or by corrupt cronies of Maduro and Chavez. These malign foreign actors looted Venezuela’s resources for the benefit of American adversaries like Cuba, Russia and China and failed to invest in Venezuela’s infrastructure or development.
  • President Trump has re-established the Monroe Doctrine, purging foreign malign influence from our backyard and ensuring American dominance in our hemisphere is never again questioned.

I mean, he could have painted in American flag blue rubber so I guess it could be worse, but once again my immediate reaction is, it's not his personal plaything to ruin with his own bad taste, but we already know he's exactly the sort of ◊◊◊◊ who would just do it anyway.
