I well remember my first night in the US, more than thirty years ago. Drove my hire car to a little motel I'd booked in Manassas, because I was on a mission to look at some civil war sites. While checking in I saw there were a bunch of standard chain restaurants opposite so I figured I'd stroll across and get a bite to eat.

My first introduction to how big chunks of the US are organised.

I had a similar experience in Houston. Convenience store across from the motel, no way to reach it, alive anyway, without a car.

Given that they did that for one who is well known to have been effectively ruled in court to be a rapist, I'd count one of its purposes to be as a taunt. The kind of taunt made by those who are well aware that they are completely in the wrong, but also think that they'll never be held accountable because of the power they hold.

As a side note to this whole subject from years ago that also dovetails in with the thuggery, Trump basically sent thugs to seize medical records from his former doctor during his first term. It was passed off by critics as being about him balding, but I think that I'll suggest that it was more likely about controlling information so he could lie about literally everything.

Increasingly off topic, but whenever someone starts proposing creating walkable cities in the US, you get the usual suspects screaming about how it's a Socialist plot to keep people in an isolated area so they can be controlled and spied on.

Trump's actions are enough to justify much complaining, after all, especially when added to the contempt-worthy backdrop to those things that Republicans have been working to create for... my entire life, in fair part with with their up is down and down is up level propaganda.

I do not begrudge people showing their unhappiness with bad things being done, even if I do sometimes object when the choice of complaints actually made are fallacious and counterproductive. Not least because relying on complaints like those undermines the many reasonable complaints that are very easily available.

The fact the population voted this fat, stupid, orange, miserable sack of rotted turnips into the highest office in the land should cause people to dislike us. We ◊◊◊◊◊◊ up and now we have to wear it.

A repeated theme in your posts is American Exceptionalism. Every time you post it's about how the US shouldn't be held responsible for all the dumb, terrible ◊◊◊◊ we've done over the years. Well, Trump has exposed all of that, made it his platform, and has brought it all to the forefront for the entire world to see.

Are you saying that, as these cities were being planned, designed, and developed the people in charge were thinking, "Well, this city isn't going to be safe, might as well not make it walkable too!"
