It's a curiously American approach to infrastructure. The basic method of getting anywhere is to drive or be driven, and sometimes that's to the exclusion of any provision to walk there. The spaces between destinations being designed for machines and not humans. It does create a minimum threshold level for participation in society - If you don't have a car and can't afford taxis, you're automatically excluded.

This is quasi-generational as well. I just went on a trip with my parents to San Diego and I told them to just park their vehicle at the hotel and we'd take public transit around town (we were a block or two from the train depot), and they weren't having it. They either wanted to drive, or uber everywhere we went, but then complain about how they weren't getting their steps in. Kind of a weird world we live in.

Bill Pulte has absolutely no experience that's relevant to national security.
Pulte is the hack who used his position as director of FHFA to accuse Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell, Letitia James, and Lisa Cook of mortgage fraud. In December, the Government Accounting Office confirmed that it is investigating whether Pulte's accusations involved violations of the federal Privacy Act.
Pulte is an even worse choice for DNI than Tulsi Gabbard was. Senate Republicans are already murmuring about how difficult it would be to confirm him as DNI if Trump sends his nomination to the Senate.

I well remember my first night in the US, more than thirty years ago. Drove my hire car to a little motel I'd booked in Manassas, because I was on a mission to look at some civil war sites. While checking in I saw there were a bunch of standard chain restaurants opposite so I figured I'd stroll across and get a bite to eat.

Bill Pulte, head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA), and heir to a home construction company fortune, will serve as acting director of national intelligence - that is, he will do both jobs.
Which is fine, given that he has no experience with the intelligence community whatsoever.
But Trump trusts him, and that is all that matters when it comes to the security of the country.

That totally ignores that because of American Cities tend to be bigger in size and more spread out then European cities, driving of some form is the only practical way of getting around.
And, frankly, that his is some sort of evil plot is conspiracy nonsense.

Remember, this corrupt administration doesn't have the money for SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare, Meals on Wheels, the environment, but they do have money for wars, and insurrectionists.

And with the exception of New York they are as big or bigger than US cities.
It is rather that Europe has very little empty space - it's a concept that goes back to the Middle Ages that, ideally, you should be able to see the Church tower of the next town from the town you are currently in.
