US blockade of Cuba

Trump on Cuba:

We will be taking it over almost immediately. On the way back from Iran, we’ll have maybe the USS Lincoln come in off shore and they’ll give up.

maybe he hasn't learnt that people don't always give it up at the first sign of Trump. (I do wonder how much Venezuela has actually given up, what has changed, nothing in Venezuela, perhaps some money flowing into Trump family funds?

Ah, now you ask. Calcaterra was tasked with observing the cessation of construction on a Soviet submarine facility on the southern coast of Cuba. I was on McDonough when she did a hiyaku sortie from Gitmo to ... persuade ... the Cuban PT boats from interfering with Calcaterra's assigned duties. I was on the snoopy team at that time, took pictures.

I don't know how much of the above made the papers in the US.

Thank you. I'm curious as to why you didn't provide this information in the first place and instead posted a search URL.

What the god-dammed crap is this? What are you trying to say?

That's hidden in the information I linked to.

The search result is Naval History and Heritage Command: Calcaterra (DE-390). Why not past that link instead of a totally opaque raw URL?

And what does it have to do with the current thread?

Ah, now you ask.
You are posting so much nonsense.

BREAKING: Secretary of State Marco Rubio hits back at claims of a U.S. oil blockade on Cuba:

"Here's what's happening with Cuba, okay? Cuba used to get free oil from Venezuela. They would take like 60% of that oil and resell it for cash. It wouldn't even go to benefit the people. So the only blockade that's happened is ... the Venezuelans have decided we're not giving you free oil anymore."

"The reason that I can't fix it is not just because they're communist. That's bad enough, but they're incompetent communists."

Okay, two things:

If Cuba was getting free oil from Venezuela, then using 40% and selling 60% for cash, in what way was that cash not helping Cuba? Does Rubio think the ghost of Castro was just lying and smoking cigars on a heap of cash like Smaug? All it tells us is Cuba desperately needed both.

WTF does that have to do with justifying your embargo on anyone else supplying Cuba with oil?

This is Cuba today due to the U.S. blockade:

CEPR on X, April 27, 2026
#Cuba's infant mortality rate rose 148% from 2019 to 2025 during a period of unprecedented expansion and tightening of the US commercial and financial embargo against the island, a new CEPR report by Alex Main, Joe Sammut, @MarkWeisbrot, and @GuillaumeLong finds.

TOTAL GENIUSES 🇨🇺 😅 In Cuba, the nurses' union prescribes Alzheimer’s to Donald Trump on behalf of Dr. Fidel Castro. He forgot «Bay of Pigs» and forgot that in Cuba, nobody surrenders.

The Cuban people respond to the new U.S. Executive Order of today #1DeMayo, which contains new unilateral coercive measures.
They will not intimidate us.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio: "The wealth in Cuba is controlled by a company owned by military generals who take all the money. This is a country where people are literally eating garbage from the streets, but this company is sitting on $16 billion. It’s a broken nonfunctional economy."
