They remind me of that old Twilight Zone episode, "It's a Good Life", where everyone in the neighborhood has to praise and kowtow to a child named Anthony (Billy Mumy) because he has god-like powers that can control everyone and everything. He sends them 'to the corn field' if they upset him.

The people live in fear of Anthony, constantly telling him how everything he does is "good", since he banishes anyone thinking unhappy thoughts forever to a place that he calls "the cornfield." Having never experienced any form of discipline, he does not understand that his actions are harmful. He is confused when his father tells him that the neighbors are reluctant to let their children play with him after he sent several of his playmates to the cornfield.

One night each week, Anthony gives the townsfolk one hour of television, which he creates and projects onto the family TV set. The adults gather around in the Fremonts' living room, squirming uncomfortably as Anthony shows them a vision of battling dinosaurs with ample gore. Unable to voice their real feelings, they tell Anthony that it was far better than what used to be on television.

I remember when The Simpsons did their version of this with Bart having the powers. It's very, very similar to what Trump would do if he had the powers.

The Iranians lie whenever it suits them and Trump lies whenever his mouth is open. It's not really a surprise the press don't believe Trump. He's just an order of magnitude less credible even than the Iranians.

I think it speaks volumes about the Trump administration when we can look at an Islamic theocracy that has abused its people for decades and fostered terrorism in lots of other countries, and think "These people are still the more reliable than the Americans".
