More likely, that large numbers of people are apathetic. They care more about their own daily lives than the state of the nation and the world, and they're too ignorant to make a connection between the two. They're also like the proverbial frog in the pan of heating water. The water heats gradually, and the frog doesn't notice that it's too hot until it's too late. Add to that the people who know there's a problem but are fatalistic about it and believe they can't make anything change.

These people are as much of a problem as MAGA. It's hard to fight a fire when there's a huge crowd of people who are between you and the fire and think nothing's wrong or nothing can be done.

It is not just that he still has a lot of support, it is the lack of protests at what he is doing, that is concerning. It suggests that Americans in general are turning against their democratic western allies, and they prefer an aggressive, dictatorial leadership.

There are a number of understandable criticisms that can be made. "Lack of protests" does not seem to be one of them.

I suspect that one of the things that will keep damaging the US long after this administration is gone, is how the media landscape has changed (it might even be as bad as what Worm Brain does to children's health). It's scary to see how more and more power is concentrated in the hands of those who should have none.
