Ultimately, things MIGHT work in the democrats favor...He's a dupe, there's not going to be any kind of vote.
Hasn't he learned anything about the Republicans?
Angus King: "This initial strategy didn't work. And now we have one. We're gonna have a guaranteed vote on the ACA, and it may not succeed. I grant that. But a reasonable chance -- 10, 20, 30% -- is a lot better than 0% which is where we were."
Assuming Republicans continue their plan to cut subsidies (and fail to bring in any sort of realistic health care plans of their own), health care insurance costs are going to increase. Given how concerned people are about inflation, this will make the republicans look even worse going into next year's mid-terms. That could help the Democrats pick up more seats in congress.
So, some democrats capitulated for the political equivalent of some magic beans, but could work better in the long run.
