Marathon newcomer
Jacob Kiplimo, running only his second-ever marathon race, has just won the 2025
Bank of America Chicago Marathon in near-world record fashion.
Kiplimo, who is a world record holder for the half marathon, finished with an unofficial time of 2:02:21.
"It's a big achievement to me. I'm happy about it," he told NBC Chicago at the finish line.
Kiplimo has only ever run one other marathon, which also took place in 2025.
He finished second in the London Marathon, just 10 seconds behind winner Sebastian Sawe and set the Ugandan national record. Kiplimo shattered the half marathon world record just two months earlier, when he ran 56:42.
