Ed The Fascism Checklist, Trump 2025

Yep, a rabbit hole.

I will just mention that plenty of tourists, including communist Chinese citizens, can visit gun ranges in Nevada and Texas, hire an automatic weapon of their choice and a bucket of ammo, and legally blaze away.

And last time I was in the USA, I was offered a handgun for sale in a store (it was in LV) even though I made it clear I was an Australian citizen.

My impression was these situations were both legal.

Anyway, back to the channel!

I've shot at a shooting range when I was over on a business trip, then again here in the UK I've skeet shot at an organised venue without needing a shotgun licence so I'm not sure that counts for much when it comes to owning and carrying a weapon. Similarly your experience in LV might just reflect the fact that some Americans just have no concept that other counties exist/have legal systems/US laws don't apply universally, as a brief perusal of sites like Quora will quickly reveal.

But I don't have any particular insight on it and bow to your, and bruto's knowledge of the subject.

Your knowledge will exceed mine. The gun sale thing was perfectly legit, apparently. If I was legally in the USA (tourist visa), had no criminal record (tick), and provided legit ID (passport plus driver license), I was informed the gun could be mine. It was a snub-nosed revolver, as I recall. Smith & Wesson? Uuuuh, no thanks.

If Trump doesn't finish all the work he has to do in his second term, we HAVE to give him a third!
He never started what he had to do in his first term. Just ◊◊◊◊◊◊ it up royally, including COVID. And the only thing he has done this term is ◊◊◊◊ up more stuff royally, even faster.

IIRC non citizens don't have 2nd amendment rights & aren't generally able to legally carry firearms (I may be wrong, if so please correct me). So a person defending themselves in a (from a US perspective) perfectly legal way will be criminalised.
And what about USA Citizens?

Does a congressman (Keith Self) quoting Joseph Goebbels during a House foreign relations subcommittee hearing deserve a check mark? And no, he didn't quote him in a cautionary context. He's from Texas.

Check-check, double-check.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration is having early discussions about a grand military parade in the nation’s capital this summer, something that is a long-held dream of President Donald Trump.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said Monday that the administration had reached out to the city about holding a parade on June 14 that would stretch from Arlington, Virginia, where the Pentagon and Arlington National Cemetery are located, across the Potomac River and into Washington, D.C.

The Army is in early discussions about potentially adding a parade to the Army’s 250th birthday festival, which is being held June 14, according to a defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions are ongoing and no decisions have been made.

June 14 is also Trump’s 79th birthday
I wonder if he'll be in uniform?

True, but...

What should I do to prepare before going to the US?

Take steps to protect your devices, or find alternatives. If you’re travelling for work, consider taking a laptop that has no confidential information, is shut down on entry and is not automatically connected to any cloud services or email accounts that may store confidential information. For mobile phones, if you have the means, consider setting up a second device (sometimes referred to as a burner phone) to travel with. Make sure your second device is stripped of confidential information and contains only the basics needed on your trip. Consider setting up a second mobile number/sim card for the second device. But if you do, make sure any apps or services that you use which are reliant on two-factor SMS authentication (rather than dedicated 2FA apps such as Authenticator) are set to verify you through your new number.

What should be on my devices before entering the US?

Travel with as little information as possible, the ACLU recommends. They advise people to use strong and unique passwords, and to shut all your devices down before crossing the border. If possible, consider setting up new email accounts, use password managers and log out of apps such as social media. Owners of iPhones should consider enabling Lockdown Mode, which adds further protection against someone trying to access your device without the passcode.

If you need to travel with access to your existing email accounts, turn off cloud syncing services and clear downloaded emails.

If you have privileged information on your device, the ACLU advises that you should alert border officers to this fact before they begin a search.

Once in the US, if you have a password manager and access to your existing accounts, you can log back into your email and other services you may need to use.

No-no-no . . . not fascist at all.

In that case I'm pleased I picked up the Audible version of Mary Trump's book yesterday.
