Gene Hackman, the Oscar-winning actor who brought a flinty menace to films such as “Bonnie and Clyde,” “The French Connection” and “Unforgiven” was found dead Wednesday along with his wife in New Mexico, authorities said. He was 95.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department said Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, 63, and their dog were found in their home and that no foul play was suspected.

My first guess was CO poisoning, but a sheriff is claiming open pill bottles, unlocked open door etc. Sorry, don't have a link right now.

Longtime Rep. Raúl M. Grijalva, D-Ariz., died Thursday from “complications of his cancer treatment,” his office announced in a statement. He was 77.

Grijalva, who served in the House for more than 20 years, was elected to Congress in 2002. During that time he served as chair of the Natural Resources Committee, and most recently was the top Democrat on that House panel.

He also was one of the leading progressive voices on Capitol Hill, and was the longest-serving co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, from 2009 to 2019.

Second Democratic House member to die recently.

Val Kilmer, a character actor as famous for his idiosyncrasies as he was for his widely lauded performances in hit films such as “Top Gun,” “Tombstone” and “Batman Forever,” has died at age 65.

A devout Christian Scientist who eschewed traditional medical treatment, Kilmer died Tuesday in Los Angeles, according to the New York Times. The actor’s daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, told the newspaper the cause of death was pneumonia. Kilmer had been treated for throat cancer, a procedure that largely left him voiceless. He said in 2021 that he was cancer-free.

Clem Burke, drummer with Blondie, has died aged 70, from cancer (which he had kept private). I was fortunate enough to see him play, with Blondie and with a band playing the Lust For Life album, twice in the last couple of years. (I have friends who've met him, too.)

I liked him. Saw him in person once, as he was walking through the international terminal at LAX. I was going to shout "Norm!" but someone beat me to it.

Brian Wilson, the musical savant who scripted a defining Southern California soundtrack with a run of hit songs with the Beach Boys before being pulled down a rabbit hole of despair and depression when his highly anticipated masterwork was shelved unfinished, has died. He was 82.

The family of Wilson, who for decades battled mental health issues, drug addiction and a vast cross-section of excesses, announced his death Wednesday morning on Facebook. “We are at a loss for words right now,” the post said.

Also Sly Stone.

The band I play in often tries to slip a number from a recently deceased well known artist into our set list. Unfortunately rather too many giants of music are getting to that age.
