Just read today John Amos died August 21st, age 84. Did the family and reps not release the news earlier, orr did it just fly under my radar?

I thought when I saw that that I had heard about it earlier. It is unusual that it rates a news story posted today.

'Young Frankenstein' star Teri Garr dead at 79

Teri Garr, an actor with a flair for comedy who was known for film roles in “Young Frankenstein,” “Oh, God!” and “Tootsie,” a part that earned her an Oscar nomination, has died.

Garr, who became a spokeswoman for multiple sclerosis after publicly revealing her diagnosis in 2002, died peacefully of the illness Tuesday in Los Angeles surrounded by family and friends, her publicist Heidi Schaeffer confirmed to The Times. She also had undergone surgery in 2006 to repair a brain aneurysm. Garr was 79.

When she played Dustin Hoffman’s long-suffering girlfriend in the 1982 hit film “Tootsie,” New Yorker critic Pauline Kael called Garr “the funniest neurotic dizzy dame on the screen.” Ms. Magazine said she “radiated insecurity and satire at the same time.”

My cousin once met her at a party in Portland, or maybe Oysterville, Oregon where they had mutual friends. The friends all claimed she want to get to know him better but he never pursued it or anything. That didn't stop us calling her "Cousin John's Girlfriend" every time we saw her in something. (This was in the 1980's.)

I know Lynch's Dune gets a lot of hate, but I really liked its visuals. It's hard to overlook the clunky voiceovers and the occasional scenery-chewing. But at the same time, Twin Peaks was truly groundbreaking television at the time. We should all be so luck as to make such a splash.
